Health officials in California identified a positive case of plague in a Lake Tahoe resident.
El Dorado County officials said in a release that they have notified the California Department of Health that a resident from South Lake Tahoe has plague. Officials believe an infected flea bit the sick person, who was camping in the South Lake Tahoe area, the release said. Officials are investigating.
Yep. Happens a couple dozen times a year. We have plague zones in America. Have for a long time.

More likely got it from an illegal alien.
I like your post better than mine
Kudos
Ever since San Fransisco “leadership” refused to recognize there was a plague outbreak in Chinatown (No sharks near Amity beaches!).
They didn’t start a rat removal effort until The Plague had already spread to the local ground squirrel population.
Now you can get plague all across the western United States.
Thanks guys.
“The Plague” so infamous, so awful, no one wants to fully identify it? Aka: The Bubonic Plague? It wiped out half of Europe until enough doctors understood what was happening.
All the more reason to allow regular culling of Deer local populations.
A resident from South Lake Tahoe was camping at South Lake Tahoe? What - from one side of the lake to the other? Couldn’t be camping at North Lake Tahoe as then it wouldn’t make sense - AS IF IT DOES NOW!!
Forget the camping and go gambling at Stateline - more fun!
Jose’ the flea.
I flee from fleas
Oh no!
Mask up and cancel the Midterms.

Quite unlikely, actually. Plague has been in the southwestern U.S. since the late 1800s. Carried by many small mammals and passed by the fleas that feast on them.
Bring out your dead.
I use to work / live in South Lake when I was a fire fighter. We always had warning about squirrels and the fleas they bring.
Yeah. There’s various areas around the SW that are popular camping and hiking ground where you’ll se a sign that warns it’s a plague zone and if you have flu like symptoms in the next 2 weeks run don’t walk to the doctor and tell you were in a plague zone. The punchline is bubonic plague is very easy to treat (by the 1950s or so) you just need to start treatment early.
This never happened to the Cartwrights...
That’s because Ben was smart, he lived on the Nevada side of things, the ranch was well inside Nevada, near Carson City.☺
The Chili Peppers in town?
Reminds me of a joke involving a flea, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
