“ I would have thought that they would have done that the last time Democrats did this”
Who is “they”?
Last time Paxton tried to uphold the law like this Texas GOP rinos, wimps and Bushies went after him
Now they have a 14 point Trump coat tail behind Trump and no chance to hinder Paxton.
They would have to amend they constitution and to amend the constitution, you must have two-thirds approval of both houses and then be approved by voters.
I was doubting if Abbott had the ballz. Sometimes it’s nice to be wrong.
Do it! Do it now and don’t turn back.
It’s a great FAFO, and democrats everywhere need to be taught a lesson, that we aren’t going to take it anymore.
Better than fining them as was reported earlier. Of course some judge will rule that they cannot be removed. If that happens the legislature could strip them of committee assignments as the next best thing.
He is running to primary RINO John Cornyn to get the repub nomination for that senate seat-we need him to do that...
Can they gerrymander before they refill the vacant seats?
So as state AG Paxton is authorized to declare those offices vacated? Is that specifically stated somewherw, or is it implied and that’s why he wants the Supreme Court to weigh in?
The person i was replying to said it is up to the legislature. Does the legislature have rules on unexcused absences?
Paxton was a representative and has been the AG of Texas for 10 years
You want to argue about petty crap go somewhere else please
Oregon high court says 10 GOP state senators who staged long walkout can’t run for reelection
By Claire Rush
February 1, 2024
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Supreme Court said Thursday that 10 Republican state senators who staged a record-long walkout last year to stall bills on abortion, transgender health care and gun rights cannot run for reelection.
Even if not, their remarkably high quorum is based on the number of elected members. If there are vacancies the number to reach a quorum would it drop
Let’s hope Gov Pritzker goes down for harboring the fugitives.
My question is:
If the seats are declared vacated, does that change the quorum required to conduct business?
I’m not wanting to argue, at all. I’ve just heard 2 different things from each of you and want to know what documentation supports each view. Is it the legislature that decides this, or is it the AG? Or it could be both, with the legislature making the rules/decisions and the AG doing the legal work to make it stick. I don’t know so I ask. The tone of my questions doesn’t show in bare text. I’m not being either snarky or confrontational. I’m just asking for whatever information anybody has.
I believe Paxton is the kind of fighter we need. I suspect that he’s taking this to the TX Supreme Court in order to foil the democrats’ plan to hold TX hostage to their lawfare beyond the time where the redistricting could happen to make any difference in the near future. As somebody else noted, though, the TX Supreme Court wouldn’t let Paxton investigate election fraud so maybe they’ll be wrong on this too. sigh.
If I could see what Paxton actually sent to the Supreme Court it would probably clear up a lot of my questions.
He would be awesome as Senator, and it would be good to get rid of Cornyn. It does seem like the TX legislature is a mess, and maybe the AG’s office too. Maybe Deep Staters there just like in DC. I hope there are fighters that can replace him and keep up the good fight if he does win the Senate seat.
Wherever he ends up I’m sure he’ll be doing the fighting that needs done. I hope he ends up wherever he can be most effective.
Looking at what Paxton posted to x at https://x.com/KenPaxtonTX/status/1953900513143271925/photo/1 (which I would copy here if I knew how) it seems like both you guys are right. It is the legislature who decides this, and Paxton is the one who represents the government of the state in lawsuits where there is a state interest.
I don’t know if the legislature could just declare the offices vacated and then to go on with business based on the new numbers needed for a quorum, or if some judge would declare an injunction against the legislature. Either way I think it’s going to be decided by the courts, and the dems will try to delay forever.
I’m not going to dream of doing paxtons job or second guessing him. So lay off
I have a life
The judge has granted a temporary restraining order halting all unlawful expenditures and fundraising while the litigation continues. This victory comes just a few hours after filing the initial lawsuit
This is a good response.
I like this very much!
