A little about Lee’s background from the GoFundMe link in the article:
For more than 13 years, Lee has served Danville as a dedicated city councilman, never missing a meeting and working tirelessly to revitalize the city he loves. He is a father who coaches his children’s sports teams, a husband who adores his family, and a friend who has always been there when others needed him. Now, Lee and his family need us. Because of the nature of this attack, workers’ compensation may not cover his injuries. Lee will be unable to work for the foreseeable future, and Blair will lose wages while caring for him. Their children are facing emotional trauma and uncertainty as their father fights to heal.
I am confused.
Lots of rumors out there claiming an affair between the councilman and attackers wife but I’m not ready to buy that. Folks who know Lee are posting replies to these rumors in our local news stories that there is just no way that is possible.
He was attacked while on the job.
Because it’s not officially a work related injury. I mean the cabinet didn’t fall on him. He didn’t fall down the stairs. It was a crime against him perpetrated from someone not employed. Yes. It sucks.
True. But not by another employee. We will see how this turns out. With all the media frenzy world wide they will likely pay out. I hope.
I was an employer for a long time and I don’t see it as a Work Comp claim.
Hayes is a Danville resident. The police said Hayes and Vogler are known to each other and had been engaged in a personal dispute.
A picture on a Facebook account belonging to a Mary Alice Hayes, is believed to show the suspect with his wife. The pair married in September 2023 in Ruffin, North Carolina, according to their wedding website.
His wife recently filed for divorce. She was also friends with Vogler’s wife.
Yes. That may or may not have anything to do with whatever was going in between the two men though. But it may have set the crazy dude off more so than normal.
I wonder if this varies from State to State. Back in the ‘90s, someone I knew who worked for one of the universities agreed to ride with another coworker to deliver something at a work-related location about 2 hours away. They were in a terrible accident and the one who went along for the ride was permanently & almost totally paralyzed. WC covered everything as long as he lived. This was in Florida.
I kind of figured. It would be a different story had he been a policeman on duty or something like that.
“””I wonder if this varies from State to State. “”
I’m sure it does. It will probably be a messy deal.
Worker's comp is for work-related injuries.
Having a crazy person soak you with gasoline and set you on fire isn't work-related.
“He was attacked while on the job.”
and wasn’t it by a constituent?
So if you are harmed by a crazy customer you aren’t covered?
"Customer" = "work-related"
Was this crazy person a customer of his place of employment?
Is he employed as a councilman? Is this a constituent?
I have no idea. You should ask them.
