Roy Cooper breaks fundraising records as he kicks off expensive NC campaign
Politico ^ | July 30 | By Elena Schneider

Roy Cooper broke fundraising records in his first 24 hours as a Senate candidate — a massive cash boost the former North Carolina governor will need for what’s expected to become one of the most expensive statewide campaigns in U.S. history.

National and North Carolina strategists from both parties said the race — likely between Cooper and Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley, who has President Donald Trump’s endorsement — could be one of the costliest Senate races in the 2026 midterms, topping out at $650 to $800 million, according to private estimates described by both parties. That would crack the previous national record set by the 2022 Georgia Senate race, which cost nearly $500 million.

“You have a two-time governor, now seeking the U.S. Senate, running against, essentially, the RNC, so both candidates, both parties, are going to bring a lot of money to this race,” said Democratic state Sen. Jay Chaudhuri. “Not since Jesse Helms versus Jim Hunt [in the 1984 Senate race] have you had two such national prominent candidates run against each other.”

The Dems are giddy about this one. They see it as a potential pick-up. Tillis is retiring.

Biden’s record-breaking inflation raised the price of everything including Democrat campaigns.

Tillis, Cooper, does it really matter? Tillis has been almost as reliably left-voting as any Democrat.

They may not be wrong.

This is going to be a really tough fight for Whatley. Cooper has a big base in the stupid...er.. left leaning cities.

He needs to run a sophisticated campaign and get his strength from the rural areas, like Trump did. Despite Helene after effects, the hill folk voted in droves for Trump.

Whatley needs lots of help.

The same problem ALL states have: Real Americans, suburbanites and rural, are "out-voted" by inner-city tribal parasites, Fraud, and Dem-run city voting/mail-in ballots.

It's a nationwide problem.

could be one of the costliest Senate races in the 2026 midterms, topping out at $650 to $800 million,

All that MONEY TO GET A "JOB THAT PAYS ONLY $174,000.00 A YEAR !?!?!

We The People need to have a 25/8/366 A YEAR WATCHDOG ON THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS !!!

Beyond that Amount MUST BE AUDITED !!!

And don't forget about the other perks they get like: Lifetime medical care that is way above the level that the Average American even has a chance to get. Funding to keep them in contact with their "constituents" after they are out of office... Security Services and I can't remember the rest of the goodies they get...

What does Tillis have to do with the 2026 Senate race?

They’re getting giddy about many of them because the money is pouring in. I’m afraid the Republicans are going to have a lot of losses. It’s hard to compete if you’re running 1 ad for every 20 of theirs

What is puzzling is why and how so much money came in so quickly. Almost like it was staged, with a great deal of prearrangement, to deliver what is hoped to be a powerful show of force and “groundswell” support. In fact, this is likely to be just a very large donation from each of only a few megadonors, and “Astroturf” financing.

Except if we keep majority, we keep chairmanships. To me that’s a must on both houses even if nothing is done.

About 5% of that money comes from NC residents. About 10% comes from US citizens.

Would Cooper really be no better than a Democrat? Needed: an issue-based comparison of Cooper with other candidates.

Yes

Tillis has been almost as reliably left-voting as any Democrat.

False
Heritage Action for America rates the average Republican Senator at 78% on voting record and Tillis at 70%. .
Democrats in his state scored 0 and Sen. Burr 65%.
