1:07 What is an earthquake? An earthquake is caused when two blocks of Earth's crust slip past each other on a fault plane, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Tsunami alerts were issued for Alaska and Hawaii on Tuesday after a major, 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia, according to officials.

It says 9.1 is approximately 10 times the energy released of 8.7 even though the numbers don’t seem to say that
But that’s energy released
Dont pay much attention do you people?
Week or so ago they had a 7+ in the same area.
Before that, that volcano erupted at about the same as mount St Helen’s eruption.
Very volatile peninsula. Also one of thee most remote and beutiful places on planet earth.
Its the ring of fire. So, will that trigger more along that ring? Just remember, the Cascadian fault zone is just about due.
This poor gal, in Russia, felt the shake ...
She was at least 85 miles from the epicenter.
Surf’s Up! Stay safe!
Oh my gosh!
WOW 😳
Thanks for the info. Just talked to my brother. He and his wife live along the coast at Coos Bay.
He’s joking around like nothing will happen, but they’re paying attention!
LOL!
A 7 just hit ... aftershock. Yikes.
Dutch just posted a 7 aftershock.
He’s on live and saying we’re not done.
Most powerful earthquake in recorded history was the 1960 Valdivia Earthquake in Chile, which registered a staggering 9.5 magnitude. It lasted about 10 minutes and triggered a Pacific-wide tsunami that reached Hawaii, Japan, and even the Philippines. Over 1,600 people died, and millions were displaced.

If it hit magnitude 10, I wouldn’t be online to post about it. 😅
Waves are picking up.
Boats heading to shore, quickly.
Warnings are now saying 11:30 arrival for Yokosuka. That’s 1 hour from now. Sixth floor should be good, but we are only about 200 m from the water.
I live in Hawaii. I grew up on the left coast of America. I always select a home way above sea level(or one that floats).
Oh boy 😱
Correction: we are 500 meters from the water.
Well, if that doesn’t cause Guam to tip over, nothing will.
If your in a boat, depending on size, the last thing you wanna do is head to shore.
Deep water. Safest place.
It’s been upgraded to an 8.8.
I was there 55 years ago, when it was next to what used to be the Seafarer ("shiiharaa"). I'd give anything non-eternal to be there again.
P.S. Hawaii college I teach online for, just sent its campus people home because of the tsunami warning. (I'm in FL)
