Giannakouris/AP As the sun rises over Kabul’s parched mountains, a family’s daily struggle to find water – and to make it last – is about to begin.
The sound of water tankers rumbling through Raheela’s neighborhood in the Afghan capital prompts the 42-year-old mother of four to rush out to the street to fill her family’s battered buckets and jerrycans. The family’s supply is always running low, she says, and every liter is expensive, stretching nerves and their budgets to breaking point.
“We don’t have access to (drinking) water at all,” Raheela, who goes by one name, told CNN. “Water shortage is a huge problem affecting our daily life.”

Human suffering is always a concern. Pray for these poor people. “But for the grace of God go I.”
Don’t care.
Can’t make me.

As soon as you see “CNN via Yahoo” you what follows is weapons grade BS.
Afghanistan had 20 years to get their crap together while we were spending our blood and treasure there.
They made their choice, now let them live with it.
The people will work together to fix their problems, or die together.
Freedom. Kabul version.
What does "modern history" have to do with Afghanistan?
Same as Gaza...
Stop bombing people, fix your country, stop waiting for handouts.
Yes, exactly.
Any truth in their words are spoken in the service of a greater lie.
Sam Kennison could not be reached for comment.
The Taliban obviously isn’t concerned about anything as mundane as public utilities. Like American liberals, who believe you just turn a faucet for water just like you throw a switch to get electricity. Grocery stores provide food. They’re just there and always will be.
No not the first time in modern history….
Cape Town nearly went dry less than a decade ago.
However who is surprised by this out of Afghanistan?
Wow! I wish I could dig a well for $550 bucks!
Anyone who thinks this is natural is ignoring the Taliban’s goal to enslave.
All blue cities follow the same playbook — “You want safety? Hire your own security — from my cousin who owns a security firm.” Every shortfall is engineered.
The only thing they care about in Afghanistan is killing each other
Who said anything about “naturally” occurring or “safety”?
We should care about human suffering regardless of the cause.
Again, “there but for the grace of God go I.”
Allah may be great...but without water he will have fewer followers.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people.
My guess is the war lords in the mountains are laughing their asses off at the Taliban.
Ditto for me. We trained and armed the Afghan Army and they didn’t have the will to fight off the Taliban. I have washed my hands of the whole affair.
Eventually when life becomes unbearable maybe the people will get rid of the taliban. We lost too many beautiful American warriors in that useless conflict. I no longer care what happens there.
