Commiefornia Ran Fossil Fuel Companies Out of Town, Now It’s Begging for Them to Return . . . and None Are

DCNF(DCNF)—California Democrats are reportedly rushing to find a buyer for a refinery scheduled to shut down in 2026 as a potential gas crisis looms over the state, according to Reuters.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) is reportedly actively seeking buyers to stop the upcoming closure of the Valero refinery in Benicia, California, according to three people familiar with the matter that spoke to Reuters. Democrat officials are now reportedly scrambling to keep the refinery operating in California after enforcing stringent regulations that have helped prompt refineries to close across the state for years.

“CEC is engaging with market players to explore pathways for the continued operation of in-state refineries,” the agency told Reuters.

CEC did not specifically confirm that it is looking for a buyer to Reuters, but did say that it is working to ensure that the refinery stays open. Valero announced its Benicia, California, refinery closure in April, and Phillips 66 refinery is also scheduled to shut down by the end of 2025.

Maybe they should fine Valero for closing.

We live in Bizarro World, so it could happen.

Valero would probably be willing to sell it to the state for the right price with California assuming all environmental liability and waiving all sovereign immunity in connection with the deal. Now that the railroad boondoggle is dead, there should be plenty of money for a refinery.

Valero should demand a $1 billion a year in subsidies to stay in CA’s woke political sh**hole

That’s how California crony-marxist capitalism works.

It would be difficult enough just to replace the gas that wouldn’t get refined. But would California then tell suppliers that California won’t accept gas that isn’t refined to California regulations? I don’t think anyone would be able to meet California’s refining standards, and frankly they probably wouldn’t even try, so California would have to accept gas that isn’t refined to its standards. So what then? Would California let its drivers use the same gas that drivers in other states use? Oh the horror!

I get the feeling that there are some bad polling numbers out there.

I can’t imagine what it would take to get an oil company to buy into California given the toxic regulatory and tax environment. Nobody will be dumb enough to do that.

Kalifornia can surely easily replace fossil fuels with fruits and nuts.
Right?

Posted this about a month ago on the CA gas situation:

Kinda weird to think what it'll be like if gas spikes at double the price/gallon of any other state in the US.
I mean, as far as I know there is still oil offshore with wells already drilled and capped off by gov't regulations.
Nearby are the refineries, all built and ready to produce if the state would just let them.
Something for CA voters to think about while they're walking, isn't it?

“… What could go wrong?”

.

The Kali gubmint genius-goons will send a coal burning locomotive drawn
passenger train into a tunnel and everyone on board will die from the fumes?
Just a deranged guess…
