Gov. JB Pritzker has officially signed the Illinois "Squatter Bill" into law on Monday.
The law will make it easier for police to remove squatters from someone's home, bypassing a possibly months-long eviction process
Previously, squatters were allowed to stay at the property during the court process to get them out.
The law differentiates squatters from tenants, making it easier for property owners to regain control of their home.
"This outdated eviction law has treated squatters the same as tenants, leaving property owners in limbo and tying the hands of law enforcement," Pritzker said.

The supreme irony is that Pritzker approved the law while at the same time Illinois joined a lawsuit seeking to bar the Trump Administration from denying undocumented migrants access to public benefits.
Aren't these people squatters and trespassers as well?

Why do we have to keep making new laws to enforce old laws?

The article sure doesn’t say much, basically it just reports that it is a big improvement.

Good observation. searching the net, very little clarificatgion. The media does’t want the details to be public knowledge.
did finally find this:
https://www.chicagospropertymanagement.com/blog/illinois-squatter-bill-sb1563-guide
Once signed by Governor JB Pritzker, the law will:
Allow immediate squatter removal in Illinois when the rightful owner can prove legal ownership
Classify squatters as trespassers instead of tenants
Penalize the use of fraudulent leases or false identities to occupy a property

Another state trying to catch up to Florida.
Maybe one day he will sign a law stopping men from going into the bathrooms of women and young girls and ogling them.

That is a far better article.
