Court documents describe surveillance video that shows the victim standing on the platform waiting for a train when the suspect walks up and hits him in the head. Author: Anthony Macuk (KGW)

PORTLAND, Ore. — The victim in an apparently unprovoked assault at the Convention Center TriMet MAX station Thursday morning has died, Portland police confirmed late Friday afternoon. Police declined to identify the victim because his family has not yet been notified of his death.

Police identified the suspected attacker as Jordan T. Christ, 30, and announced Thursday afternoon that he had been booked in Multnomah County jail on a second-degree assault charge. When announcing the victim's death on Friday, police said the Multnomah County District Attorney's office is involved in the investigation and will "consider any appropriate criminal charges."

TriMet surveillance footage showed the victim standing on the MAX platform in the moments before the incident, apparently waiting for a train, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in court Friday.

The video shows the suspect, later identified as Christ, walking down Northeast Martin Luther King Boulevard and onto the platform, where he then walks directly toward the victim, who continues to stand there and does not appear to interact with or acknowledge him, according to the affidavit.

When the suspect reaches the victim, he winds up and strikes him once in the face or head. The victim falls to the ground and lays still. The video then shows the suspect immediately walking away toward Northeast Pacific Street, according to the affidavit.

Based on his appearance in the video, police searched the area and found Christ sleeping in an alcove about 500 feet from the station. A detective who later interviewed Christ said his pupils were severely constricted and that he appeared to struggle to stay awake or focused, although he denied substance use. The investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Detective Matt Brown at Matthew.Brown@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0859 or Detective Scott Broughton at Scott.Broughton@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-3774 and reference case No. 25-190435.

...where he then walks directly toward the victim, who continues to stand there and does not appear to interact with or acknowledge him...

This is the failing of a lot of people these days, especially in a place like Portland. They simply refuse to acknowledge danger, because that would be some sort of "ism". Add to that the fixation on smart phones at all times, and a lot of people are just sheep waiting to be slaughtered.
