Elon Musk Offers an Update on His Plans to Form a Third Party
Townhall ^ | 07/05/2025 | Rebecca Downs

Elon Musk has found himself in the news recently for his opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), though it still passed both chambers of Congress this week and was signed into law on the 4th of July holiday by President Donald Trump. As we noted on Thursday, hours after the bill had passed the House, Musk was quiet over X, though days before he had called for forming a third party if the bill passed. Sure enough, Musk posted once more about an idea for another political party on Saturday.

If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day.

Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 30, 2025

On Friday morning, hours before the bill was going to be signed, Musk conducted a poll about the creation of the America Party. Close to 1.25 million people voted, with 65.4 percent in favor of such a party.

"Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!" Musk posted.

A subsequent post had offered how to "execute" the party, focusing on only a few races in the Senate and House. He also referenced the "razor-thin legislative margins" in place.

Musk had conducted a poll early last month as well, asking if it was time for a third party. With over 5.6 million votes coming in, 80.4 percent approved of the idea.

One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.

Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 4, 2025

Musk has since posted and reposted throughout Friday Saturday about his plans for this America Party as well as concerns to do with the bill and the "uniparty." One of his more recent posts from Saturday addresses how he plans to go after what he calls the "one-party system."

Yes https://t.co/NHJf7ZxICv— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 5, 2025

The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra:

Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 5, 2025

Musk has also been posting and reposting those that support his idea, though replies his posts from Friday and Saturday have also pointed out the issues with having a third party in our two-party system.

The idea of such a third party has been trending on X throughout Saturday, with "America Party," and "Ross Perot," who ran unsuccessfully as an independent in the 1992 presidential election and still only earned 19 percent, despite being considered one of the most successful third-party candidates in the U.S. presidential history. "Mike Pence" has also been trending for rumored involvement, but there has been no evidence of this from any credible sources.

Respectfully, the American people gave Trump a mandate of 4 years. I think the right thing to do by the American people is to let him execute on his agenda. I get the frustration with congress. A lot of them need to be primaried but starting a third party now will just give…— Aesthetica (@Anc_Aesthetics) July 5, 2025

Why are you trying to hand Democrats the country when you worked so hard to save it from them? I don't get it.— The🐰FOO (@PolitiBunny) July 4, 2025

‼️I’m Vehemently Opposed to the Creation of a Third Party‼️

Let me preface this by saying I support both President Trump & Elon Musk. I think I speak for many — hopefully — that we wish both “dads” can come to an agreement & work together for successful 2026 midterm elections.…— ThePersistence (@ScottPresler) July 4, 2025

I said it the last time you posted this question…

If you want to know how a multiparty system works, look at Canada.

Do you want America to become Canada?

If the system is broken, more of a broken system isn’t going to fix it.— Viva Frei (@thevivafrei) July 4, 2025

As a person experienced with third parties, I say no. Love you Elon, but trust me this is not the way. Start a caucus in the GOP. I'll take the lead.— 🥷🦅Austin Petersen 🇺🇲🥋 (@AP4Liberty) July 5, 2025

Close to 1.25 million people voted, with 65.4 percent in favor of such a party.

Some of them are Dems who want to see the conservative/MAGA vote split.

Most, however, picture this undefined party as a party that mirrors the respondents views. So many of the people who want a third party have opposing visions, so the number is meaningless until the 3rd Party is defined.

Trump made running for and winning the presidency look easy. He is an amazing historical figure. Starting a party that would displace one of the majors, at least on a regional level, is SEVERAL orders of magnitude greater. Musk has a fat wallet, but a lot of his assets are likely not that liquid. It will also be hard for him to get a team of people who know their way around, and won't just take the money and not really make it happen.

Musk hasn't thought this through.

If he wants to rattle the cage of the establishment, he could run for the Senate seat in Texas in 2026.

Paxton (R)
Loser Democrat (D)
Musk (A)

Paxton would win, but it would be absolute chaos.

Elon is brilliant, but he’s way off base here. All a third party would do is divide the conservative vote and give democrats both houses of Congress and the Presidency. Not to mention that the desire of the majority of Americans would most likely be unattainable.

He really is NOT all that "brilliant" at all.

Sadly, far too many are taken in by him, for some inexplicable reason, which I am unable to fathom. Perhaps it's his wealth.

Anything, he is sort of an idiot savant, but even that isn't really all that true.

I have manic depression. I used to work in a mental health facility, helping other people because of my own experiences with manic depression. I'm currently trying to get an agent for my memoir, much of it is about having manic depression.

I'm familiar with manic.

And Elon Musk is definitely manic right now.

He needs someone to pull him aside and try to talk him to calm down. He doesn't really know what he's doing right now. If it's anything like what happened to me, he's feeling a rush of euphoria and probably has ever since the election. DOGE was an enormous triumph for him and like a junkie he must have more of that thrill. He's basically trying to do anything that will make him feel like a cartoon character. Whereas others who are manic seek such thrills from spending money they don't have, or out of control libido, or running circles around the parking lot at 2 a.m., in this case we have a man with MANY BILLIONS of dollars and nobody substantial in his life to make him pull back from the edge of the abyss.

We are definitely in some crazy times!!

Even if Elon had an IQ of 1000, there are some things he should not try.

Stay in your lane, Elon, and keep creating things that will better mankind. Leave the governing to lesser mortals. You DON’T have to do it all.

I think he also has bipolar. Mostly because bipolar is ebbs and flows over many months. It’s not up and down fast typically, it takes time.

There are treatments for it that should work well but he probly loves the high parts enough that he’ll refuse any treatment. And he’s probably also on lots of drugs.

Dr Drew needs to work on him for awhile. Then again most of Dr Drew’s patients ended up worse off too.

Elon just needs to take a few months break from life. Not like his Starship is doing well anyway, and could probably do fine without him.

Agree. It’s like he’s gone from front and center in the news, being with President Trump all the time, in the thick of things, and then sidelined, for whatever reason.

He seems to feel like he was owed much more than that for what he went through for the country, and the good things he did. Not sure how this is going to go. I have to think that him being autistic is playing a part in this.

I feel sorry for him, but wish he’d stop whatever he’s trying to do.

That last meeting he did in the Whitehouse, Elon had a black eye. He was in a fight, physically, and stood there arms crossed like I have when slighted in places. He looked mad, and right after said Trump was on Epstein’s island.

I wish we had some JFK style tapes of this and Biden’s after debate videos, they’d make any World Star insanity look normal.

All this stuff going on is a clown show.

This would be a very long time for a Manic episode to be sustained, wouldn’t it? Of course, it’s possible for a Peak to simply become a New Plateau. Maybe that’s his Venn.

If he goes for changes in the senate or house and not the president. Then his party could upset the apple-cart in those houses.

Even if Elon had an IQ of 1000, there are some things he should not try.

He has no "Tacit Knowledge" of things American

He is ticked off that Trump removed subsidies for Electric Vehicles

He is in cahoots with the Chinese Communist Party.

He wants a human/computer inerface with his company Nuralink

One of his many offspring's planted a booger on the Resolute Desk.

Suck it up Elon....you are passed shelf life.

An episode can be brief. A day or so.

It can also last weeks or months.

And Elon Musk is definitely manic right now.

President Trump attempted to pull him into his family structure and help him have some stability in his life that he never received from his father.

Sadly, it didn't work. Elon had it all - he's just too blind to see it.
