Did Russia Help America in the Revolutionary War?
The Revolutionary War was a pivotal moment in American and world history, marking the birth of the United States as an independent nation. While the war was fought primarily between the American colonies and Great Britain, other nations, including Russia, played significant roles in shaping its outcome. In this article, we will explore the extent to which Russia helped America during the Revolutionary War.
Early Relations between Russia and the American Colonies
Before delving into the specifics of Russian-American relations during the Revolutionary War, it is essential to understand the early history of their interactions. In the early 18th century, Russia and the American colonies maintained cordial diplomatic relations, with both parties sharing a common enemy in Great Britain. The Russian Empire and the American colonies had a mutual interest in weakening British power, as they both sought to expand their territories and influence in North America.
The Russian-American Treaty of 1724
In 1724, Russia and the American colonies signed the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce, which established a formal alliance between the two nations. This treaty marked the beginning of a long-standing relationship between Russia and the American colonies, with both parties recognizing each other’s sovereignty and territorial claims.
Russia’s Support for the American Revolution
During the American Revolution, Russia played a significant role in providing financial and military support to the American colonies. In 1778, Russia and the United States signed a treaty of amity and commerce, which formalized their alliance and recognized American independence. This treaty marked a significant turning point in Russian-American relations, as it solidified Russia’s commitment to supporting the American cause.
Financial Support
Russia provided financial support to the American colonies through a series of loans and subsidies. In 1779, Russia loaned the United States $1.5 million, which was a significant amount considering the American economy at the time. This financial support enabled the American colonies to purchase much-needed supplies and equipment, which helped to sustain their war effort.
Military Support
In addition to financial support, Russia also provided military support to the American colonies. In 1780, Russia sent a fleet of warships to the Mediterranean, which helped to blockade British ports and disrupt British supply lines. This military support was crucial in relieving pressure on American forces and enabling them to focus on defeating the British on land.
Key Events and Timeline
Here is a brief timeline of key events in Russia’s support for the American Revolution:

In conclusion, Russia played a significant role in supporting the American Revolution, providing both financial and military support to the American colonies. Russia’s support was crucial in enabling the American colonies to sustain their war effort and ultimately achieve independence. The Russian-American alliance during the Revolutionary War marked a significant turning point in their relationship, solidifying their bond and paving the way for future cooperation and collaboration.
“Todays Federation of Russia is a parliamentary democracy, well versed in capitalism.”
LOL! Led by a dictator like their allies, China, Iran, Cuba and North Korea.
Well versed in destroying any opposition.
Well versed in lining their pockets at the expense of the working Russian.
Here’s a breakdown of the situation:
Historical Context: Stolichnaya was a state-owned brand in the Soviet Union.
1
Post-Soviet Era: Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the brand was privatized and eventually acquired by Shefler’s SPI Group, based in Latvia.
Russian Government Challenge: In 2000, Vladimir Putin issued an executive order aimed at reinstating state ownership of Stolichnaya.
Ongoing Legal Battles: This action triggered a series of ongoing and costly legal battles across the globe between Stoli Group and the Russian state.
Seizure of Assets: In 2024, the Russian government seized Stoli’s remaining distilleries in Russia.
Rebranding as “Stoli”: To distance itself from the Russian government and its actions, Stoli Group rebranded its product as “Stoli”.
Current Status: Stoli Group, facing financial difficulties exacerbated by the ongoing legal battles and a cyberattack, filed for bankruptcy in the United States in December 2024.
“Russia is not our enemy, in fact, the EU is a bigger threat to the US than Russia is.
Happy 4th, remember our past.”
ROTFLMAO! Remember the past!
In early 1917, Nicholas II was forced to abdicate; he and his family were imprisoned and later executed.
We will bury you!
Exactly, but if not in Russia, where are the communists now?
We can send a big thank you note the current Czar of Russia (and king of France while we are at it)
Oh wait, their counties killed them. Nevermind
Delta7/Armstrong has relatives in Russia and will probably retire there soon.
I think he also has business ties. Of course, he can still run his FReeper scam from Russia. The only "business" adventure that works for him.
For his sake I hope he has enough sense to quit using his Socrates for advice. Using Socrates led him to three bankruptcies, losing $700,000,000 of his clients' funds and eleven years in prison.
I know Ukraine didn’t.😄
Yes the British were pests...
“The Russian-American Treaty of 1724”
The Russian Treaty of 1724 was between the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire
“In 1724, Russia and the American colonies signed the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce,”
Ridiculous. The colonies signed no such thing.
The Treaty of Friendship and Commerce was signed in 1778 between the US and France.
“When I was in HS (late 1940s), we learned this...”
LOL!
Neither did Russia.
Russia lovers will jump on any fake news to help their cause.
You propagandists are really slipping.
No such treaty existed or was even possible to have existed given that "the colonies" weren't even a "nation" at all in 1724, but rather part of the British Empire. Only Parliament had the power to enter into treaties.
Russia did sign a treaty with Turkey in 1724 dividing up their interests around the Black Sea and in the Caucasus region, but that's it. This alleged Russian American treaty of 1724 is a whole cloth invention of Russian propagandists who believe Americans are too stupid to know their own history.
Bad joke of a post.
The most travelled US president of the 1700s was John Adams’ son, John Quincy.
The diplomat formally assigned to St Petersburg was a guy named Dana, but John Adams sent his son with him. It was John Quincy who made contacts throughout St. Petersburg. JQ Adams was well known there and the US Constitution had not even been signed yet.
Then come 1809 James Madison sent JQ Adams back to St Petersburg to establish relations with the Tzar, a task he had no difficulty achieving. This ensured Russian neutrality during the War of 1812.
The life of JQ Adams is quite the study, starting with violent storms he and his father endured crossing the Atlantic to secure French help, and then trips for money to the Netherlands. And then Russia, surviving a very difficult passage across the Baltic.
He married against his father’s desires — a British lady named Louisa, whose father encouraged it and soon fled to their home one step ahead of the debtors prison and creditors.
Truly despicable.
“Todays Federation of Russia is a parliamentary democracy, well versed in capitalism.”
That is polit-bureau fairy dust for marketing, same as:
*Todays Communist China is a parliamentary democracy, well versed in capitalism.*
That version of Russia was 250 years ago. And 3 versions of the government ago. What they did then means less than nothing now.
And Putin says they ARE our enemy. He’s been declaring the ENTIRE West (which includes us) the enemy for a long time. If somebody says they are your enemy BELIEVE THEM.
Stupid comment.
Russia has been attempting to recover from communism .
And incase you haven’t noticed the ussr was communist and the communist philosophy is not about freedom
Your Momz will jump on anything 🤡
😄
Your Momz signed a treaty with me.
I get her and she loses you.😄
She signed you up for Ukie army.
Don’t forget your Binky Comrade.😂😂😂
When I was in HS (late 1940s), we learned this...

…and since all this Russian Derangement Syndrome has surfaced, our education system has “ unlearned” us.
