New pro leagues, increasing audience and investment more a movement than a moment
In July 2020, about five months into the global pandemic, 144 WNBA players gathered in Bradenton, Fla., to play a 22-game condensed season in empty arenas...
Nobody is watching woman's sports.... Basketball may have had a slight uptick, but seriously? Most woman's professional sporting events are sparsely attended and more people likely watch woman's tennis or woman's golf in one weekend, than watch an entire season of woman's basketball.
Woman's sports are boring and unwatchable... Caitlin Clark may have added a few more eyeballs, but that audience will likely subside and disappear as Clark gets hurt more and more, or when she decides to get a job that actually pays money.
Women’s sports are unwatchable. It’s not “booming” at all.
Apparently money is available for investment into these leagues, but even the lesbians must find the quality of play uninspiring.
Why is because men aren’t allowed.
That's an opinion.
With men’s pro sports like NFL being so expensive to attend or even buy fan gear, we may as well watch other things. On a budget, my husband and I have watched all kinds of things, including women’s college softball.
She looks like a guy in that picture.
Exactly. There is an agenda, it is an astroturf movement.
If it was booming, the NBA wouldn’t have to finance the WNBA’s operations.
Here in Minneapolistan we paid for a new stadium for the Minnesota Twins. We can’t watch the games unless we pay for a streaming service. Screw that.
The world is not what it seems. Most people have no idea how much manipulation there is. Is Hillary Clinton the smartest woman on the planet? Many said Yes, because they were told to say Yes. Was Biden sharp as a tack? People believed it because they were told to believe it. Did Biden have dementia? The script got flipped, so people believed that one instead.
Are Women’s sports booming right now? It’s what they want you to believe. But anyone who can take a step back understands that it’s not true. Is the WNBA super profitable right now? No? That’s because it’s not booming. Even with Caitlin Clarke.
If the article is true the WNBA can stop being the Welfare NBA living off of NBA subsidies.
(Hint: The article is lying....)
Women DIII basketball draws some nice crowds in New England.
Because as Eve was deceived, so today’s women are deceived, eating of the deadly performance tree, rejecting their intrinsic value, rejecting men’s and women’s God-given value and role, and instead trying to be like men.
Sadness.
So true. Most women do not start looking for long term mates until over 50% of their eggs are gone.
Women’s sports that have a watchable appeal have always been booming.
Women’s tennis
Women’s gymnastics (and other Olympic style sports)
The thing that is growing is the attention in the media.
Yep.
Same in Detroit.
Ya have to purchase a subscription.
Still. I catch the games on the radio in my backyard.😄👍
Why Now ?
Because the Men in most sports are such crybaby assholes!
Like most in the NBA.
Tara De Boer. Maybe, Tara, but I’d rather watch Nelly Korda play golf and Caitlin Clark play basketball than I would Bronny James pretend he’s an NBA player.
Why not? I mean in the end sports is just for fun. And all sports take time to gain traction. We don’t think about it because the sports we watch are all way older than we are, so don’t remember when professional football almost folded because people only cared about the college game.
Especially in a world where people complain about how money has ruined sports. Women’s sport are low revenue and low pay, for now. So no problems there.
And women’s college basketball is actually significantly more watchable than the men’s game. The 1 and done nature of the men’s game has just killed it. The sport is now a handful of good teams that will be gutted by the NBA draft every year, and everybody. The women’s tournament especially has been much more competitive and entertaining than the men’s.
Really almost everything complain about in men’s sports doesn’t happen in women’s. Which is probably a big driver. And sure the numbers are still tiny in comparison. But they are growing on the women’s side.
