Summary
WASHINGTON, July 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate's massive budget bill that passed on Tuesday will make it harder to develop wind and solar energy projects, despite the removal of some contentious provisions, industry advocates and lawmakers said.
Iowa Senator Joni Ernst, fellow Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley and Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, whose votes were crucial to the bill's passage, had introduced an amendment calling for removal of that tax, which caught lawmakers by surprise after it made it into the last draft text.
Many Republican states host large renewable energy industries.
The Senate also changed language about which solar and wind projects can use the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act’s tax credits. In the Senate's final version, projects will be able to use the lucrative credits if they begin construction before 2026. A previous version was based on when the projects enter service.
But overall, the Senate bill will make it too challenging to move forward with many new wind and solar energy projects, likely depriving the United States of added electricity capacity at a time of soaring energy demand, critics said.
That could mean higher consumer bills and lost jobs around the country at project sites dependent on the credits.
"Senate Republicans just voted to trigger the largest spike in utility bills in American history," said Lena Moffitt,...

😭. Just kidding.
Iowa is the biggest manufacturer of wind generators in the USA.
You see them being delivered all the time on I70.
I suspect this is Al Reuters trying to make a good thing look bad.

If it relies on government handouts to survive then we don’t need it.
You buy the lies oil and natural gas are finite?
I’ve been seeing a lot of TV ads about this. Wondering what the real story is.
“Hydro-electric dams are the only form of constant energy!”
Not constant. Hoover dam is at 75% capacity due to low water levels.
Well, YAAAYYYY
Long past time to end this grift.

Gasoline is endlessly renewable thank you very much.
It takes more energy and resources to build devices to create energy savings than what you can get from them to “save energy”
“If it relies on government handouts to survive then we don’t need it.”
You mean the 700+ billion per year the USA gives to the oil industry right...right? At least be honest with yourself. Uncle sugar is in the business of handing out funds to lobbyist cronies. I am all for eliminating ALL subsidies and tax breaks every single one. Then people would have to pay full price for an asset. Gasoline would nearly double in price btw without uncle sugars largess. Still as a small government type they all must end.

“Gasoline is endlessly renewable thank you very much.”
No it’s not, unless you make it from seawater and nuclear power or solar. There is a finite amount of liquid hydrocarbons in the earth’s basins. At current production rates we run out of technically recoverable oil in 46 years. Even if we could get every single drop if original oil in place there is less than 80 year
s worth and physics limits how much oil can be removed from the pore spaces due to nuclear force of attraction.
I take it you do not have a PhD in geoscience let alone one in petroleum geo. Abiotic oil is a myth it’s pure cope. No one anywhere EVER has presented to us the petroleum geologist community at any of our scientific community evidence of the affirmative for abiotic liquid hydrocarbons. Not at AAPG,SEG,GSA not a one. Every time someone dumb enough to try was absolutely torn apart by geochemistry and isotopic analysis.
No no you are flat out wrong from an industry professional who has personally drilled thousands of wells, and been boots down in 6 of 7 continents on this sphere in every every basin on it. Also having done thousands of geochemical analysis on produced fluids every single one has no less than half a dozen markers for biological origins. Flat out wrong period full stop.
“Long past time to end this grift.”
Agreed so when are we ending the hundreds of millions the oil industry gets from our tax dollars. I am all in on ending ALL subsidies. Careful what you wish for gasoline price will nearly double without uncle sugars largess. Still I am all for eliminating ALL subsidies. The USA has no constitutional charter to give money to lobbyist cronies even in the oil industry.
No. What the oil industry gets are tax breaks. You see, oil actually generates a PROFIT. They then pay tax on this PROFIT. The oil industry does not rely on government to survive. So called "renewables" do not generate a profit. They can't compete. They rely on subsidies from the government to survive. Without those subsidies they would be out of business. Trying to conflate tax breaks with subsidies is standard Gaia Worshiper propaganda.
Wind and Solar Energy Subsidies vs. Oil and Gas Tax Deductions EXCERPTS:
1. The Inflation Reduction Act provided wind and solar power with lucrative tax credits that are essentially uncapped and available without limit.
2. The oil and gas industry receives tax deductions that pale in comparison to the vast sums of taxpayer money provided to wind and solar generators, estimated at 6%.
3. These energy forms offer very different benefits (revenues to the government, employment, and energy contribution) to Americans.
4. The U.S. economy gets less than 3% of its primary energy from wind and solar, compared to 74% from natural gas and oil.
5. Solar and wind tax credits should be phased out as they are in the House version of the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
And: The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA), President Biden’s signature climate bill, passed solely by Democrats, contains lucrative, essentially uncapped subsidies for wind and solar-generated power. Under current law, the tax credits phase out over four years, starting in either 2032 or when the U.S. power sector’s greenhouse gas emissions fall to a quarter of their 2022 levels — whichever comes later.
