For political junkies who cut their teeth on “60 Minutes,” “Meet the Press,” CNN, and Fox News, longform podcasts were a godsend. Finally freed of commercial restraints and surface-level superficialities, longform podcasts took you beyond the talking points, treating audiences to a deep dive of a topic’s intricacies. Even when the podcast host had limited knowledge of the subject matter (Joe Rogan, I’m looking at you), the benefit of the longform platform was that it facilitated an open-ended, free-floating conversation where both sides learned more about the other.
But there was an important catch: It only worked when both sides were acting in good faith. You had to really, truly care about what they say. More than anything else, that’s the secret to Joe Rogan’s phenomenal success: He’s genuinely curious about his guests.
He doesn’t invite them on to mock them or belittle them. He’s not trying to settle stupid feuds, score points, or play a political game of “gotcha.” Instead, Rogan respects his guests and wants to learn more.
That sure wasn’t Tucker Carlson’s approach during his astonishingly mean-spirited interview with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.). The ex-Fox News host had absolutely no interest in hearing Cruz’s opinions or to better understand his (and President Trump’s) position on Israel, Iran, or anything else. His purpose wasn’t to have a grown-up conversation about grown-up issues, but to mock and belittle Ted Cruz so the video “goes viral”:
Ted Cruz tried his best to be conciliatory: He warmly welcomed Tucker Carlson (the interview was filmed in Cruz’s Senate office).

Yah, he’s working for a check from someone.
Cruz is not going to be President. But he has a better-than-even chance of getting a Supreme Court nomination if he stops trying to be President.
Correct. Or Senate Majority Leader which is a position with a lot of power and no term limits.
What did asking the number of people living in Iran have to do with anything? Tucker asked other dumb questions as well.
It’s a big nothinburger, promoted by provocateurs still using “lying Ted.” The circular firing squad at its worst. Or, even worse, leftist moles on FR.
“”His purpose wasn’t to have a grown-up conversation about grown-up issues, but to mock and belittle Ted Cruz so the video “goes viral”:””
Tucker (rhymes with) Carlson showed his @ss in that interview by being so hostile and confrontational with Cruz, who is someone that is “supposedly on his side” of politics. He revealed his real agenda and persona and in so doing... he also just proved that my take and stance on him has been 100% correct all along. Thanks, Tucker.
I just wonder how much he was paid under the table for that hostility and hit piece.... which is ultimately directed straight at MAGA and Trump via Cruz. I figure the DS goons have rewarded him quite nicely and promised a cushy job in their next administration. All Tucker has to do is carry their water, help them destroy MAGA and jump through their hoops on command.
Cruz shat the bed and made all the neocons and Dispensationlists look bad.
Anyone surprised by what uninformed, self important dolts Tucker exposed them to be, is living in a dream world
Maybe….maybe not
“He also uses language that makes me turn off the podcast.”
I exercise that option occasionally but sometimes I don’t.
Tucker looked like an atheist laughing at Cruz for saying those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who curse Israel will be cursed.
Tucker’s snarky laughs were disgusting. He is not very Biblical literate.
Ruiz came off as a smarmy caricature of a bible salesman
I don’t pay him to know the Bible or to peach to me about the religiosity of countries he is at te same time claiming ignorance of in their geopolitics which is what I do pay him to do
“What did asking the number of people living in Iran have to do with anything? Tucker asked other dumb questions as well.”
Tucker should have wiki’d it beforehand so he wouldn’t have to ask it.
The the only reason I can see why he would be asking a question like that is trying to ascertain what size body bags the jihadistsl Iranians need to be stocking up on.
Who is Ruiz? And what is wrong with Bible salesmen?
You sound like your basic Secular Humanist.
It was hard to miss the distinction between blessing Isreal and Blessing its government , but I thought Tucker did a great job exposing the corruptions tactics they use against truth, deception and projection ,,, it was funny that he even tried to deny he was insinuating Tucker was an anti-Semite after not having strong enough convictions about his own beliefs , , but he sure as hell did , and so deceptively too.
Great to see the lockstep, back-to-a-forever-war-in-the-Middle-East crowd, in Congress exposed.
Cruz has taken millions from AIPAC and undoubtedly is compromised as well.
And that’s what’s likely to get thousands more young men and women maimed and killed in the years ahead.
Why is Cruz quoting from the Bible?
We pay him to know geopolitics I get my religion from my own source, not from my senator
He tried to BS his way through that interview and Tucker wouldn’t let him
Period
There’s nothing wrong with Bible salesmen. I sold religious books for supplement for years
Why is Ted Cruz selling bibles? He’s BS ing his way through an interview with Bible verse. That’s acting like a sleazy caricature of someone selling bibles who cares more about the sale than the Bible.
You sound like you have a problem with Christians in office? Lots of Christians believe you support Israel and the Jewish nation since they are God’s Chosen People. To laugh at him for that is pathetic.
I am on the side of letting Israel finishing the war but calling Christians names does not help. That is what Dems do.
“ You sound like you have a problem with Christians in office?”
Stop talking to me.
