WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared to acknowledge that the Pentagon has developed plans to take over Greenland and Panama by force if necessary but refused to answer repeated questions at a hotly combative congressional hearing Thursday about his use of Signal chats to discuss military operations.
Democratic members of the House Armed Services Committee repeatedly got into heated exchanges with Hegseth, with some of the toughest lines of questioning coming from military veterans as many demanded yes or no answers and he tried to avoid direct responses about his actions as Pentagon chief.
In one back-and-forth, Hegseth did provide an eyebrow-raising answer. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., asked whether the Pentagon has developed plans to take Greenland or Panama by force if necessary.
“Our job at the Defense Department is to have plans for any contingency,” Hegseth said several times.

Talk about twisted, distorted out of context sensationalist reporting.
We have schools for war planners. What do those trainee war planners do for homework? They write war plans. What do the do when they graduate and get offices in the Pentagon? They make more war plans and update the old ones (hmm, do we need quite as many musket ball molds for our invasion of Canada?).
Can Denmark defend Greenland if China decides to attack them?
If not, then Greenland needs to pay us for defense or become a US territory.

That's a generic answer that does not necessarily have anything to do with Greenland. That said, I wager that the Pentagon has plans to invade most places. That's what joint area commands do.

We already have a military presence there that probably far outclasses whatever Denmark has there

No. There is just a handful of USAF people running a smallish station in the North.
But several platoons should be enough, with 2 helicopters and one fighter jet just to be sure.
My bet The Pentagon has plans to invade and take over many lands from Canada to Mexico even England.
