Israel's blockade means Gaza's hospitals cannot provide food to recovering patients [AP Sob Story]

Gaza Strip — It cost a fortune, she said, but Asmaa Fayez managed to buy a few zucchinis in a Gaza market. She cooked them with rice and brought it to her 4-year-old son, who has been in the hospital for the past week. The soup was his only meal of the day, and he asked for more.

"It's all finished, darling," Fayez replied softly. Still, it was an improvement from the canned beans and tuna she brings on other days, she said.

Hospital patients are among the most vulnerable as Palestinians across Gaza struggle to feed themselves, with Israel's blockade on food and other supplies entering the territory now in its third month.

With hospitals unable to provide food, families must bring whatever they can find for loved ones.

"Most, if not all, wounded patients have lost weight, especially in the past two months," Dr. Khaled Alserr, a general surgeon at Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis, told The Associated Press. Nutritional supplements for intensive care unit patients are lacking, he said.

"Our hands are tied when it comes to making the best choice for patients. Choices are limited," he said.

Malnutrition is on the rise across Gaza, aid groups say. Thousands of children have been found with acute malnutrition in the past month, but adults as well are not getting proper nutrients, according to the U.N. It estimates that 16,000 pregnant women and new mothers this year face acute malnutrition.

Since Israel's blockade began on March 2, food sources have been drying up. Aid groups have stopped food distribution. Bakeries have closed. Charity kitchens handing out bowls of pasta or lentils remain the last lifeline for most of the population, but they are rapidly closing for lack of supplies, the U.N. says.

Markets are empty of almost everything but canned goods and small amounts of vegetables, and prices have been rising. Local production of vegetables has plummeted because Israeli forces have damaged 80% of Gaza's farmlands, the U.N. says, and much of the rest is inaccessible inside newly declared military zones.

Not sure why this is a surprise to writers at the AP. It’s a standard military tactic to isolate and starve the enemy into surrender.

Agreed. The Gazans haven’t surrendered. Evidently they haven’t learned their lesson yet.

In the closing days of WW II, the advancing Russians halted virtually all food distribution in the wake of their sweep into Berlin. Millions affected in their passage were at near starvation levels, and any medical care was a distant and faint hope unfulfilled.

War is hell. FA, FO. It never gets better.

So why aren’t supplies coming through the Egyptian border and why does no one mention that route? I know, I know…

Maybe Gaza morons should have thought about consequences before they slaughtered innocents and kidnapped hundreds while launching thousands and thousands of mussiles into Israel.

What did they think would be the consequences?

Maybe if they released all the hostages and unconditionally surrendered things would get better.

what utter bullkrap

this is a war zone because the Fakestinians attacked

Israel has been sending in THOUSANDS OF TONS OF FREE FOOD
(no other military in human history has been this STUPID!)

if anyone is going hungry in Gaza, it is the fault of themselves or the terrorists that 86% of them voted to support

Fakestinians are mostly savages. They starve their own people, even “hospital patients!” For propaganda just like this da**ed article

Maybe if IDF cuts off all the free food and provisions, the dam*ed terrorists will have to give up shooting rocket bombs and starving their own people? IT is definitely worth a try!

Meanwhile, IDF has to open the dam(ed border (shove the Egyptians aside if necessary, Egypt has broken the treaty anyway) and enable the Fakestinian Occupation of Gaza to end once and for all — let the people who want to leave (and most do) ... go home to Egypt, Arabia, or anywhere that will have them.
It is inhumane for the Gaza terrorists to use people as hostages or human shields. They are savages and need to be sent to Jahannam (Moslem Hell). =

Media that publish such da*ned lies as this article are either stupid as cowchips or deliberate co-conspirators with the Arab terrorists. Since No sentient being could possibly be so stupid, it is clear that the author is a co-conspirator with the terrorists. He should be arrested, tried, and sent to prison. Throw away the key. Calumnies like his article cause more and more needless deaths.

if you believe that, tell the Fakestinian terrorists to stop attacking and release their kidnap victims

Bibi is taking his time with Gaza, I believe it's due to political reasons.

Typically, in the past when an enemy is entrenched and you don't want to attack, you'll organize a siege. Israel did that initially, but they were forced to relentlessly and they are continuing to supply Gaza so the war can continue. It would have been better for them to get through with the siege now so they can end the war. But the international community will condemn them for doing that.

true. sorry i did’nt see your post here first.

USA has always starved enemy attackers into surrender.
NO ARMY in world history has done like IDF has- supplying THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF TONS OF FREE FOOD to the enemy forces trat are still Occupying Gaza and still holding Israeli kidnap victims as hostages and still shooting rockets at innocent people, including elementary schools and anywhere else they can reach

What IDF needs to do is suspend all the free food and provisions and OPEN THE D*** Egyptian border to enable all those Fakestinians (who are mostly Egyptian to begin with) to return, repatriate home to Egypt or Arabia, or just leave for anywhere they wish. It is inhuman for the Egyptian government to refuse to take its own people home ... or to block the border to anyone wishing to transit through to freedom wherever they wish and can find it.

Well, I guess they should stop lobbing missiles at Israel and return the hostages.

The “starvation” is a choice the arabs are making now.

In WW2, USA firebombed Dresden, Hamburg, several additional German cities, plus Tokyo and 66 other Japanese cities.

no free food and no free supplies

(after the war, okay the Marshall plan aid.. which was itself pretty much unprecedented in human history... and it was AFTER enemy surrender and hostilities ceased, not WHILE the enemy continued to Occupy allied territory, hold innocent allied civilians hostage, and not while the enemy forces were still firing rocket bombs into allied civilian communities)
