Okay... Here's the Truth About the Qatar Jumbo Jet Story
PJ Media ^ | 05/13/2025 | Matt Margolis

Posted on 05/13/2025 10:20:40 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The Democrats have been desperate to find a scandal to pin on Trump, and their latest attempt may be the stupidest yet.

It was recently reported that the Trump administration is gearing up to accept a high-end Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from the Qatari royal family—a luxury aircraft that will serve as a temporary Air Force One during President Trump’s second term. Naturally, the left is already losing its mind, but here’s the reality: this is a win for taxpayers.

In the wake of media hysteria over the offer from Qatar to provide the United States with an aircraft, Buzz Patterson, a retired Air Force pilot, White House military aide, and carrier of the nuclear football, has stepped in to inject a dose of reality—and firsthand experience—into the conversation. While critics scramble to paint the move as some kind of scandal involving President Trump, Patterson makes clear this is nothing new or scandalous, and absolutely nothing that warrants the breathless outrage.

“I’m going to try one last time,” Patterson began in a post on X. “The Qatar B-747 was built in the US by Boeing. They are offering a newer 747 to replace one of the two current AF-1s that have been flying for 40 years. Which are tired and need to be replaced.”

That last point is key. The current Air Force One planes are aging relics that first entered service when Ronald Reagan was in the White House. Replacing them has been a long, slow, and—thanks to bureaucratic delays—frustrating process. Patterson, who served as a military aide during the Clinton administration and has flown on Air Force One over a hundred times, says the Qatar aircraft would simply help fill the gap until Boeing completes new replacements—something that won’t happen for years.

“I wish Trump would not take that plane. I have heard the rationalizations, yes, but it still looks like a bribe.”

We shouldn’t accept an “Air Force One” from a Middle Eastern govt or even let Trump fly on that thing. Who knows what surveillance equipment it might contain or even hidden explosives. Perfect way to spy on or assassinate a President. They are NOT our friends.

‘ In other words, the U.S. is saving money and getting a newer, U.S.-made aircraft to bridge the gap until Boeing finally delivers the long-overdue replacements.’

How does taking a plane that needs to be completely overhauled, taking years and millions of dollars, and still buying a new plane save money?

“ President Grover Cleveland accepted the Statue of Liberty from France. I guess we should send that back.”

He didn’t take the statue home with him or give it to his library.

The President cannot legally accept any expensive gifts. Any such gifts are the property of the US government.

Besides, Trump is no fool. He knows this is an attempt to obtain favor from him. He is under no obligation to give that favor.

IIRC, it is Texas that is primarily after EPIC. Abbott & Paxton are strong, independent men. I suspect they can rid Texas of sharia, & I very much doubt Trump & Co. would interfere.

It isn't what Trump has said. This guy on Twitter seems to be just making up facts to make the story sound better, but there's no need. It's not a big deal.

That is not an answer.   You said it was not true and is making up facts.   Tell us the truth as you heard it.

(I posted this the other day on a related thread. 5/11/2025, 12:20:25 PM)

If I recall properly, the jet was at/near completion and customization but not yet delivered into Qatar possession. The jet Trump ordered and paid for the last time is nowhere near ready.

So the Big Guy dropped by the plant to check on his lost order. Lo and behold - there is a sweet ride sitting right there. And the lavish interior is even over his top. He looked good sitting in the flying caravan prepared for a king(?).

Perhaps I watched Lawrence of Arabia and old movies too many times, but I think a selfie from a royal chamber is a checkmate.

The gift of the jet is a way to save face in defeat.

I think the new crew can handle the security. In fact there may be less risk taking ownership this late in the process.

Let him blast those thrusters with pride and leave gold sparkled trail.

You’re right on this...

The real story is the corrupt ‘press’ missed all the ‘gifts’ to the Biden Grift Family... and those gifts went to Hunter the big guy and the rest of his ‘family’.

Eff ‘em.

With the greatest respect, I call on President Trump to deny Qatar the chance to cover themselves with honor by association with the President of the United States. We may be negotiating with terrorists and their supporters out of necessity, but we should not lend them this kind of legitimacy and or the appearance that they are our good friends. More of your powerful moral clarity is needed on this.

Can you think like an ordinary joe and explain what you typed?   "(C)over themselves with honor" in whose viewpoint?   If it is among other Islamist vermin why should you or I care?   If we are negotiating with terrorists, we have already compromised our stated principles, so why is this any different?

Qatar, together with US and Egyptian negotiators, helped to broker the ceasefire and hostage release agreement reached between Israel and Hamas
It makes no sense to split hairs about Qatar when we have agreed for Qatar to host the mediation efforts.   Your comments seems to say these negotiations are a farce.

Please explain?

The necessity of involving the Qataris in negotiations is understandable. Anything beyond the necessity confers upon them more legitimacy. Accepting a magnificent gift of a $400MM plane is an act of honor and respect among close friends. Think about how the Qataris will act: “See, President Trump (stupid dhimmi) is flying in our beautiful plane. See, every time he lands and has a fantastic airfield reception visiting other countries, everyone will know that he is arriving in our plane. We gave that to the American President”.

Historically, in diplomacy, one does not offer any honorific opportunities to the other parties until they earn it by good behavior. That is for example why the head of state will not meet with any other head of state until bona fides has been established by extensive meetings between subalterns.

BTW, I don’t give a crap about the emoluments or other stupid arguments made by the left and the hand wringers on the right. I just think that Qatar’s close relationship and support of Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood places them in a category we should hold at (stiff) arm’s length.

It is not for the approval of Islamists that I speak. It is for the Honor of our President and our country in the eyes of Americans and the rest of the world.

The estimate is 5,000 - 7,000 cycles on the two VC-25A aircraft used for Presidential transportation. Actual cycles is classified. The normal cycle life on a used B-747 is 50,000 cycles.

The two VC-25A that provide Presidential transportation under the call sign “Air Force One” are very low time and low cycle. They are not old, or worn out.
