Judge Blocks Trump From Retaliating Against Another Top Law Firm

It’s the latest setback to the president’s efforts to wield government power to punish the legal industry. A federal judge called it “a shocking abuse of power.”

A federal judge on Tuesday blocked President Trump from punishing the law firm Susman Godfrey, calling the retribution campaign he has waged from the White House against the nation’s top firms “a shocking abuse of power.”

Ruling from the bench, Judge Loren L. AliKhan of the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia said that the executive order Mr. Trump signed last week targeting the firm stemmed from a “personal vendetta.” Susman Godfrey represented Dominion, a manufacturer of voting machines that lawyers allied with Mr. Trump falsely attacked when he lost the 2020 election; the firm helped Dominion secure a $787.5 million settlement in a defamation case against Fox News.

The judge’s decision temporarily blocks the Trump administration from carrying out many of the order’s punishments, including one directing agencies to turn the firm’s lawyers away from federal buildings and another aimed at terminating any federal contracts Susman Godfrey holds.

It is the latest legal setback for Mr. Trump in his efforts to cripple firms he has accused of helping “weaponize” the justice system against him. The president’s actions have split the legal elite, with some high-powered firms bowing to pressure from the White House and offering hundreds of millions of dollars worth of pro bono work on issues Mr. Trump supports. Others, like Susman Godfrey, have opted to fight back.

In a statement after the decision, the firm said it was “duty bound” to push back given the stakes involved.

To hell with Susman Godfrey. They helped Dominion launch catastrophic lawsuits against people and companies that questioned their accuracy in the election. Now Newsmax always has to run a disclaimer testifying to the alleged integrity of the 2020 election so they won’t be crushed.

Their attorneys should not only be turned away at the federal buildings, but also promptly escorted to their vehicles by a security detail.

How can they be turned away from Federal buildings?

Congress is a Federal building but under the control of… Congress. The same for Federal Courts - under the control of… the Federal Judiciary.

The American legal 'industry' is in shambles, and has almost as much corruption as Mexico. The whole system needs to be reformed. The amount of arrogance that emanates from attorneys (especially those in politics) and judges is astounding. In this country if you need a lawyer you may have to go into bankruptcy, and insurance or the government are not going to pick up any of it.

Adam Schiff is an attorney. Obama is an attorney. Hillary and Bill are attorneys. Andrew Weissmann is an attorney. Robert Mueller is an attorney. James Comey is an attorney. The list goes on and on and on.

Personally, I think with only a few tweaks AI can replace many attorneys. We already have online services for wills etc. Even courtroom litigation would probably be done better than an attorney, AND you wouldn't have to put up with the scummy crap that people like John Edwards do in the courtroom - like 'channelling' a fetus in the womb:

In one of Edwards’ silver-tongued arguments to the jury on behalf of a girl born with cerebral palsy, he claimed he was channeling the unborn baby girl, Jennifer Campbell, who was speaking to the jurors through him:

“She said at 3, ‘I'm fine.’ She said at 4, ‘I'm having a little trouble, but I'm doing OK.’ Five, she said, ‘I'm having problems.’ At 5:30, she said, ‘I need out.'”

He made a fortune, based upon a combination of fraud and tugging on peoples heartstrings with untruths. To me, that is a good definition for a scummy person - yet had he not been caught cheating on his wife he very well could have attained the presidency.

I will never understand why the Trump lawyers ever gave these judges the time of day from case number one.

That was an invitation for all these rulings.

Why can’t the Trump lawyers challenge these judges from the Constitution. Tell them to show where they have the authority to rule on these matters from the Constitution.

Yep. “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it…” We’ll never restore our constitutional republic until we regain the courage and determination that the men who wrote those words had, and once again put them to action.

Writer Harlan Ellison (died at 84 in 2018) wrote more than 1,700 short stories, novellas, screenplays, comic-book scripts, teleplays, essays, and a wide range of criticism. Wrote City on the Edge of Forever for Star Trek.

All that time he always typed on a manual typewriter and used two fingers (and his thumb).

So? The firm, in the person of Susman Godfrey, pursued a lawfare agenda to punish Fox News for the channel's daring to expose allegations against them. Fox News (IIRC) settled, but that doesn't absolve the lawyer from their anti-republic (notice - republic, not republican) agenda.

The fact that the judiciary approved of the drive-by lawsuit doesn't detract from the truth of the matter.

"Judge" Alikan also seems to think she is a psychic.

Except for the SCOTUS, federal court buildings are NOT under the control of the judiciary. Lower courts are established by congress, with venues allocated by the legislature and administered by the executive.
