Democrats believe reality is a zero-sum game.

They are linear thinkers. They believe that if you raise tax rates, you automatically get more tax revenues. But, of course, it doesn't work like that. It's a dynamic process.

I tried to explain this to a Democrat acquaintance once. He really tried to understand, but he couldn’t see past basic addition and subtraction. The idea that higher rates might not mean higher revenue just didn’t compute for him.
