President Donald Trump on Wednesday unveiled a long-promised, sweeping set of baseline tariffs on all countries and what he described as "kind reciprocal" tariffs on nations he claimed were the worst offenders in trade relations with the U.S.
"My fellow Americans, this is Liberation Day," Trump said as he kicked off his remarks in the Rose Garden, claiming the action will free the U.S. from dependence on foreign goods.
"April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America's destiny was reclaimed and the day that we began to make America wealthy again," he said.
The new measures -- which Trump described as "historic" -- include a minimum baseline tariff of 10% and further, more targeted levies on certain countries like China, the European Union and Taiwan.

"We will charge them approximately half of what they are and have been charging us," he said, adding "because we are being very kind."
"This is not full reciprocal. This is kind reciprocal," he said.
Trump held up a chart with a list of nations and what the new tariffs against them will be. At the top was China, which Trump said was set to receive a 34% tariff as he claimed they charged the United States 67%.

Thanks for the tariff graphics (could have been smaller tho. ;-) ) You have the WH/Commerce Dept. link for those so I don’t have to look it up? Want to have them for reference...thanks.
(Would have been nice if they included a “Previous” tariff column in the graphics).
Childhood’s End.
Tariff walls on US goods were tolerated after WWII because we were the last man standing and were clearly the world economic superpower, and we wanted to let everyone else recover.
They did. Some spectacularly (our enemies) and some poorly (our allies). But the point is, that’s over now.
It’s been 80 years. Everyone needs to put on their Big Boy pants now and walk on their own.
Exactly, the “Marshall Plan”, etc.. Large tariffs added by allies/enemies back in the late ‘40’s/early 50’s. (NAFTA didn’t help...”Giant Sucking Sound” - Perot). All these are mentioned in this good tariff/offshoring video summary with the Commerce Secretary, etc.:

Thank you, President Trump, in setting things back on an even keel. You’re the Man!
stock market getting hammered....just when tesla was starting to recover
its turning on the bilge pump and a good start on an even keel.
it stopped the sinking of our ship of state.
but even keel would be 1 for 1 ratio reciprocal tariffs.
this is half that.
trump is being merciful .
this is like feeding a starved man a restricted intake till their body can handle normal.
the end goal must be at least 1 to 1 ratio.
then up from there.
tariffs built , and can sustain and prosper our nation.
we owe the world squat.
they want to benefit from our market ?, make them pay a price.
jmho.
Thanks for the link. More info. on the topic from the WH:

The globalists are having a tantrum on Eall Street
Futures are crashing. Open bell tomorrow should be “interesting”
Canada and Mexico are NOT on that list!
China and Germany have gigafactories making Teslas too
I’m seeing on Twitter that Canada has caved.
There has to be something else affecting the market tonight than tariffs. They have been in news for months and should be priced in already.
I was going to ask if it was going to be eventually raised to 1 to 1.
No, nothing but talk then, now, reality hits.
Futures just opened sharply lower, DOWN 1000 on the Dow and 800 plus on the NASDAQ.
Volutility to the max.
Hope everyone has $10,000 in cash hidden away in a shoebox somewhere.
Could be a real crash tomorrow
Dems are going to lose their kickbacks and are not happy about it.
“stock market getting hammered....just when tesla was starting to recover”
I didn’t look until late, but I’m up for the day and right at a recent all-time high as well, incredible.
