There was pretty good evidence he made it out on a submarine and went to South America. The search for Hitler showed lots of evidence of a large Nazi underground in Brazil and Argentina.

There’s a more interesting (and IMO, persuasive) theory that Martin Bormann, of all people, was a Soviet spy, and lived for several years after the war in the USSR. When he died, they secretly buried him in West Berlin to try to make it look like he died in May 1945. Except that the dirt he was buried in is wrong for Berlin, and the skull seems to have dental work done after 1945 ... hmmm.
