In an embarrassing public meltdown where she practically started shouting, far left Democrat mayor Sheng Thao blamed conservatives for the corruption scandal that ended her political career and led to her being recalled in the deep blue city of Oakland. She was kicked out of office in November 2024, with around 60% of voters supporting her removal due to rising crime, murder, and homelessness in Oakland.
For context, in January of 2025, Thao and several co-conspirators were indicted on eight counts of conspiracy and bribery in a federal operation, and she faces almost 100 years of possible prison time for these charges. The feds allege a ‘pay-to-play’ scheme involving city contracts. However, the allegedly corrupt mayor refuses to take responsibility and frames her recall as politically motivated instead of stemming from widespread dissatisfaction with her governance, particularly over crime.
Such was shown in dramatic fashion when Bay Area State of Mind, an account which covers local issues, posted a video of her insane defence on March 24, 2025. In her statement, Thao began by dismissing the apparent facts. She said, “I’m not going down like that. We’re not going down like that. The people who voted for me deserve to have their voices heard and communities prioritized. I’m seeking the truth right now, just as much as you all are, but I will not be bullied and I will not be disparaged, and I will not be threatened out of this office.”
While the woke mayor started to break down in tears, she blamed California’s nonexistent ‘far right’ for her political woes. She added, “There are a lot of radical right-wing forces who know they will never win an election in Oakland, fair and square. They know their extreme views are at odds with our open values, but they have built the rules to protect and preserve their power and maintain dominance over the rest of us; we are a threat to that order.”
With her rant beginning to veer off the rails, she abruptly concluded her remarks by thanking her supporters. She said, “I know that the people who support me know that. You see, this was never going to be an easy fight, but I tell you, it’s most definitely a fight worth winning for I will continue to lift up those most vulnerable, to lead by example, to prove that this system might not be designed for us, but we can, and we will build a brighter future for our children. This is my mission as your mayor, and I thank you.”
As you can imagine, the online response in the comments section under the video was negative. Another reply addressed the absurd corruption of California Democrats. A user said, “Tell me this—just how bad a criminal does a Democrat have to be to get indicted for abuse of office in California? I mean, this is a state that has spent $24 billion on homelessness with zero results, and the California State Auditor said there was little tracking to show where the money went.”

Some accounts drew attention to the absurdity of her claims. One comment said, “Dude, I lived in California, things just kept getting worse and they always blamed “not progressive enough” old guard and were always like, “but they’re better than Republicans”, like what? You think Democrats control the weather, because that’s the only good part of CA.”
Others chimed in to make the same point. A reply read, “Wait, radical right wing forces diabolically built the rules that have allowed Oakland to remain a one-party city and California to remain a one-party state? I’m not quite following her logic.”Another similar comment said, “’Radical right wing forces’… in an area that is so blue they’d vote for literal communists before a RINO Republican lol.”
She blames Reagan.
