New York -- A 56-year-old Indian-origin man and his 24-year-old daughter were shot dead at a convenience store in the US state of Virginia and police have arrested one person in connection with the shooting, according to media reports.
Pradipkumar Patel and his daughter were working at the store on Lankford Highway in Accomack County when the shooting incident happened. Accomack County is located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The Accomack County Sheriff’s office said deputies were called to the scene shortly after 5:30 am on March 20 on reports of a shooting victim, Shore Daily News reported. When they arrived, deputies discovered an unresponsive man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, it said. While searching the building, deputies found a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds as well.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, who was not identified, was transported to the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, the report said.
Accomack County Sheriffs announced late Thursday that they arrested a man in connection with the shooting.
George Frazier Devon Wharton, 44, of Onancock, is currently held in Accomack Jail without bond, according to Sheriff W Todd Wessells.
He was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. A motive for the shooting was immediately not revealed.
Paresh Patel, who identified himself as the owner of the store, said both victims were his family members, WAVY-TV, a television station in Virginia, reported.
“My cousin’s wife and her dad were working this morning and some guy come here and they just shot,” the TV station quoted Paresh as saying. “I do not know what to do.”
Another relative of the victims, Paul Patel, said he believes this was a senseless act of violence.
“They never had a problem with anyone. Their community says that they were so good,” Paul was quoted as saying by the WBOC-TV. “They were so friendly, always smiling.”
The incident sent shockwaves among the Indian community members in the United States after the news spread through Facebook, the report said.
Probably a Democrat terrorist.
How this smell was so bad on the second floor, easily six or seven units west of that lobby, was beyond me.
I had to steam iron my clothes the next morning to try to remove some of that smell. It was the craziest time I've had in a hotel room over a smell that I can remember, with only strong cigarette smoke from a prior occupant coming somewhat close.
Uh huh.
Jao was right?
Not nearly enough face tats....

Unlikely to be related to Kash. Patel is as common as “Smith” or “Johnson”.
Obvious in the name “George Frazier”.
George Frazier Devon Wharton...................No need to look...........
“possession of a firearm by a felon”
But that’s against the law!
It doesn’t matter who did it. The murderer needs to be tried and convicted of pre-meditated murder and executed. Quickly.
If that was the 1990s, their second generation probably owns 30 or 40 hotels now. It's estimated that 50% of hotels in the USA are owned by Indians, and 70% of those owned by Gujarati's named "Patel" or "Amin." They are relentless in the hotel business. Some are good, while others will do anything to save a few bucks - even employing illegals.
When I was a relatively young pup, I once rented an apartment, not realizing the apartment below was rented to an Indian couple. I could smell curry for what seemed like 24/7. Not pleasant, to say the least.
What is the deal with his forehead? Tattoo or that thing you get when you slam your head on the ground 7 times a day? He doesn’t seem have an Islamic name but that would be a motive other than robbery.
The pansy state of Virginia abolished the death penalty in 2021.
Oh he’s such a good Christian, look at the ashes on his fore-—oh, never mind..
“What is the deal with his forehead?”
I thought it might be a birthmark.
Hindu mark, called bindi on women more typically, or tilak or other names with men or generally. Frequently seen on portraits of Hindu holy men or those who wish they were.
Stayed in a Patel Motel in Columbia, MO a while ago. The rooms reeked of Chinese drywall.
