The New York Times published an opinion column claiming the scientific community "badly misled" the public in an effort to suppress the theory that COVID-19 originated in a lab in Wuhan, China, even after the paper's own science writer called the theory "racist."
The March 16 piece, "We Were Badly Misled About the Event That Changed Our Lives," by Times columnist and Princeton Sociology Professor Zeynep Tufekci, argued that the scientific community long suspected COVID-19 originated in a Wuhan lab, but purposefully "hid or understated crucial facts," to mislead the public about the lab’s "terrifyingly lax" safety precautions.
"We have since learned, however, that to promote the appearance of consensus, some officials and scientists hid or understated crucial facts, misled at least one reporter, orchestrated campaigns of supposedly independent voices and even compared notes about how to hide their communications in order to keep the public from hearing the whole story," Tufekci wrote.

1. What was the motive of the scientific community to mislead the public? Should the public be henceforth suspicious of so-called scientific claims in the future?
2. Is : “trust the science” out the window now, as far as the NYT is concerned?
3. Has the NYT considered actually doing some fact finding and digging when claims are made willy-nilly in the future? Instead of unquestioningly printing them as if they are true. You know, doing that “journalism” thingy.

“Trust the science” is actually just another way of saying “Trust the scientist”, and no, we don’t trust all the scientist.

Once again an article appears that states the obvious without confronting what really happened. No one will answer the fundamental question of why are American taxpayer dollars being spent on a biological weapons lab in China, Ukraine and lord knows wherelse? The US is a signatory of anti-bioweapons research yet we continue to do it offshore. So we have to leave it at “mistakes we’re made”?

Science and scientists didn’t dupe anyone. They were trying to warn us. Any scientist knew this whole thing was unscientific and clearly a power grab. Just those who were paid to fall in line or did so out of fear supported Fauci et al. Nothing scientific about it.
NYT throws scientists under the bus. Yeah, we didn’t like those insufferable nerds anyway.
