NASA again delays return of astronauts stranded on space station

Two US astronauts stranded for months on the International Space Station will remain there at least until late March, NASA said Tuesday as it announced another delay in the mission to bring them home.

Veteran astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams arrived at the ISS in June aboard Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, and were due to spend eight days on the orbiting laboratory.

But problems arose with the Starliner's propulsion system during the flight there, so NASA opted for a big change in plans.

After weeks of intensive tests on the Starliner, the space agency decided to return it to Earth without its crew, and to bring the two stranded astronauts back home with the members of a SpaceX mission called Crew-9.

Crew-9's two astronauts arrived at the ISS aboard a Dragon spacecraft in late September, with two empty seats for Wilmore and Williams. The plan was for all four to return home in February 2025.

But NASA said Tuesday that Crew-10, which would relieve Crew-9 and the stranded pair, would now launch no earlier than March 2025, and both teams would remain on board for a "handover period."

NASA has followed Boeing down the crapper. Once great organizations that now couldn’t find their own hind end with two hands and a flashlight.

NASA still stuck in the horse and buggy days. Maybe DOGE should take a hard look at that boondoggle.

NASA produces outstanding propaganda.

Unfortunately propaganda does not solve engineering problems.

Everything will be just fine for the missions to the moon and mars though. Sure, just fine. Pray for the astronauts safe return.

It’s like a prison without cigarettes.

Do they hold each other at night?

I wouldn’t blame them.

Is anyone near a psychotic break? Space sickness can strike anyone trapped in the expanse that is the universe.

The “Eight Day Visit” is turning out to be a lot like the Gilligan’s Island “Three Hour Tour!”

Speaking of soap, I’ll bet they would need a shower when they get back.

They should’ve scrapped Boeing by now and requested Elon’s help instead. Is it Boeing’s whistleblower’s who are being killed? I think I read something a while ago.

I wouldn't want to be stuck in space and have to rely on Boeing and NASA to get me home safely. I don't have much faith in either one right now. DEI has crippled both. I would try to get an Uber ride home on a Space X vehicle if possible.

This is an epic disaster.

I'm kind of shocked And it really does not seem to be a new technology problem.

Seems the engines in question are an old design and they were simply poorly maintained and critical parts were allowed to corrode before the launch

Rocketdyne is blaming Boeing and Boeing is blaming Rocketdyne but the reality is that our once can do aerospace industry cannot do what it once could do.

It appears to be stupidity and gross negligence more than anything else

The solution is obvious - NASA needs to head to Hollywood and recruit some plucky, preferably LGBTQ+, women of color to do the math to calculate their way out of this problem

Have you seen the women up there with their frizzy hair sticking out. It looks nasty. Why do they not want to cut it shorter up there?
