BREAKING: 'I didn't intend to leave Syria': Bashar al-Assad purported post on Telegram

Syria's former President Bashar al-Assad appears to say he never intended to flee to Russia - in what is purported to be his first statement since the fall of Damascus eight days ago.

Assad's reported statement was put on the Telegram channel belonging to the Syrian presidency on Monday, although it is not clear who currently controls the channel.

In it he says that, as the Syrian capital fell to rebels, he went to the Russian military base in his stronghold in the Latakia province "to oversee combat operations" only to see that Syrian troops had abandoned positions.

The Hmeimim base had also come under "intensified attack by drone strikes" and the Russians had decided to airlift him to Moscow.

He adds that "at no point during these events did I consider stepping down or seeking refuge, nor was such a proposal made by any individual or party".

Syria will be interesting to watch. The Leftists THINK they accomplished something there by siding with the terrorists and getting rid of Assad, and so they’ll be celebrating, but let’s see just what replaces Assad...

He's lying.

Betrayal and flight: Assad’s escape to Moscow amid Syria’s collapse

Bashar al-Assad confided in almost no one about his plans to flee Syria as his reign collapsed. Instead, aides, officials, and even relatives were deceived or kept in the dark, more than a dozen people with knowledge of the events told Reuters.

Hours before he escaped for Moscow, Assad assured a meeting of about 30 army and security chiefs at the defense ministry on Saturday that Russian military support was on its way and urged ground forces to hold out, according to a commander who was present and requested anonymity to speak about the briefing. ...

"Assad didn't even make a last stand. He didn't even rally his own troops," said Nadim Houri, executive director of the Arab Reform Initiative regional think-tank. "He let his supporters face their own fate."

Wow interesting you debunked it in 15mins.

Is that a record?

Didn’t look like he had much choice. He would have ended up dragged through the streets like Gadaffi..

The US foreign policy establishment took Iraq and Libya from bad to worse with their meddling - let’s see what happens in Syria, maybe it’ll magically turn into the secular paradise the neocons keep promising for the Mideast.

“I didn’t leave Syria, Syria left me”.

Terrorists? Assad and his father killed 600,000 Syrians during their reign of terror.

(Fun fact: Iran, the great anti-terrorist regime, spent $30-50 billion propping up Bashar al-Assad.)

The rebels have attack drones? I think not. Sounds like they were provided by our "valued NATO ally" Turkey.

“Terrorists? Assad and his father killed 600,000 Syrians during their reign of terror.”

By that reasoning, I guess one can say Zelensky killed at least 100,000 Ukrainians during his reign of terror (primarily DPR, NPR, and residents of Donbass), so why the hell are we supporting him? Not to mention FDR killing many MILLIONS of Germans and Japanese, when our ‘invasion’ consisted of a few Alaskan islands in the middle of nowhere - and some people TO THIS DAY still consider FDR as some kind of hero.

My point being that throwing around big numbers means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING without context.

What a load of BS. Where did you pull this number from?

But I’m asking someone who believes that our involvement in World War 2 was mistaken and that despite the Pearl Harbor attack and the subsequent declaration of war on us by Hitler, our only real concern in the war should have been dislodging Japanese troops from the Aleutians.

Forgive me, but that sounds fruit-loopy.

Don’t anyone be too shocked if a mass murderer like Assad decides to take an additional step into the abyss of indecency to actually be dishonest and lie.

“ Forgive me, but that sounds fruit-loopy.”

Yes very loopy.
Same thing if you are walking down the street and see 3 thugs assaulting a woman and you just causally walk by and don’t help

Lots of people died in WW2, and we killed many of them. Look it up.

Actually far worse. Libya had the HIGHEST standard of living in Africa (other than, maybe, South Africa) until Skunk Cabbage decided to overthrow him. It does not look good, at all, for Syrians now.

This sounds like something out of the Deep State School of Linguistics, from whoever is responsible for the post.

That pretty much sums it up. He didn’t intend his dictating to end the way it did. Well duh.
