The Greater Idaho Movement, which is campaigning for eastern and central counties of Oregon to secede from the state and join their neighbor, has written to President-elect Donald Trump requesting his support.
In the letter, the group told Trump that "the people here overwhelmingly voted for you," adding: "We humbly ask you for your support in helping Eastern Oregonians achieve what the people have said they want, and that's to join Idaho."...
Thus far, 13 Oregon counties have voted to leave the state and join Idaho...At this point, nearly the eastern two-thirds of Oregon would have voted to switch states....
Newsweek hasn't seen any evidence that those behind Citizens for Greater Idaho hold white nationalist views.

“Donald Trump Asked to Help Redraw Border Between US States”
Actually, it’s the Neocons that run around the world forcing borders to be redrawn. Ask those clowns.
“Newsweek hasn’t seen any evidence that those behind Citizens for Greater Idaho hold white nationalist views”
1) stopped reading right there
2) is there any point in freepers incessantly posting articles from places like ap/newsweek/yahoo ad nauseum?
It’s reposting the left propaganda over and over
I’d rather see a post to a tweet from some random dude and then comment on it.
Problem is, they need either congressional approval and approval from Idaho and oregon, or they need to just do it with idaho’s backing and skip all the legal stuff.
The Newsweek website is unbearable. Don’t visit. It’s poorly coded and basically just an ad blitz. Want your browser to crash then go ahead.
We are watching them.
we are almost there
the article itself is worthwhile. I added the ‘white nationalist views’ comment because I thought it a subtly humorous retort to an accusation voiced in the article by the Portland-based left-wing Western States Strategies
fine and dandy but while there are some local outlets that covered the story most likely just as poorly coded, 4 pages into Goggle and Newsweek is the only national coverage listed. The good news is, here at FreeRepublic, you dont have to go any further than the exerpt itself, pretty cool eh? :)
All States with big blue cities should cecede their state and form a new state each. Wonder what that will do to electoral college numbers.
So eastern Oregon wants out of the HOA? GOOD LUCK. Oregon isn’t going to cut1/2 it’s tax base for nothing.
I don’t know - it’s possible that they could be duped into agreeing if they could be convinced that doing so would rid them of the eeeeeevil right wingers who obstruct their favorite policies.
Maybe liberal articles should include “doesn’t support the sexual mutilation of children’.... so we get that reality out of the way.
“Oregon isn’t going to cut1/2 it’s tax base for nothing.”
Half its tax base? Try 1/8 its tax base or less.
If he’s into drawing boarders, we can start splitting up California..for the good of democracy.
Need more states—cut New York in two and Washington too! California needs to be three states. Make Guam a state too. Greenland and Virgin Islands too.
Post away!
Yes. New York along I-95 (North/South highway?) and let Manhattan fund itaelf.
“Newsweek hasn’t seen any evidence that those behind Citizens for Greater Idaho hold white nationalist views.”
Was that paragraph necessary? As if the default mindset of these people as supposed to be “white nationalism”. As if there were such a thing as “white nationalism”. As if Newsweek is an omniscient infallible entity tasked with making judgements like this. Sheesh!
