The key figure in a Justice Department investigation into sex trafficking allegations involving Matt Gaetz told the House Ethics Committee that the former congressman had sex with her when she was 17 years old, according to a report.
The woman, who is now in her 20s, was subpoenaed by the ethics panel over the summer and testified that Gaetz had sex with her when she was a minor and still in high school, ABC News reported on Thursday.
The Florida Republican vehemently denied the allegations.
“These allegations are invented and would constitute false testimony to Congress,” Gaetz said in a statement provided to The Post. “This false smear following a three-year criminal investigation should be viewed with great skepticism.”
DOJ informed Gaetz last year that it would not bring charges against him related to the probe, but the House Ethics Committee has been running a separate investigation into the former congressman, who abruptly resigned from Congress Wednesday after being nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as attorney general.
*** The ethics committee was reportedly set to vote Friday on whether to release its findings in the Gaetz probe, according to Punchbowl News.
Sources told ABC News that the ethics panel conducted interviews with at least six women who allegedly partied with Gaetz and were paid by his former friend, Joel Greenberg.
Greenberg, a former local tax official in Florida, pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges, including sex trafficking, in May of 2021.
As part of the plea deal, Greenberg admitted that he recruited women for commercial sex acts and paid them more than $70,000 from 2016 to 2018, including at least one underage girl – who was the woman who told the ethics panel that Gaetz had sex with her as a minor, ABC News reported. ***

We just don’t have enough information about exactly what Greenberg was doing. Are these the reduced charges?
Is Greenberg or was Greenberg recruiting illegal women. Border crossers? All it takes is one. If so, it becomes sex trafficking, not just prostitution.
And “if” Gaetz hired any, any of these women through Greenberg’s service...it is sex trafficking.
Given how well Trump’s first term team hunted down the children and recovered the children, this pick has me scratching my head. Gaetz resigned his position. The timing looks like it is to take the AG position, maybe it is? Maybe it is to plan his difficult confirmation process and clear his name? Maybe the resignation was purely coincidental seeing the GOP has a majority and he won’t affect the power balance?
There are lots of questions that need answers. Personally, Trump doesn’t need this kind of difficult confirmations.
If it’s one thing we’ve learned down through the ages is that some women will do and say anything for money.
Some men will too.

There is no evidence and he was not ever even charged with anything. This looks and smells like the standard Democrat smear job that Kevin McCarthy and his buddies have tried to keep going after Gaetz engineered McCarthy’s downfall.

Gaetz resigned so a replacement for him can be in place as quickly as possible. As explained by Mike Johnson, but should be obvious.
Given that the Biden DOJ did not file charges, the accusation is almost* certainly baseless.
*Slight chance the DOJ saw Gaetz as “useful”, left in place, due to his disruption of the Republican House. The average voter saw the turmoil amongst the Republicans as nonsense, and I have no doubt that contributed to the Pubbies barely holding on to the House instead of picking up 10 or more seats.
In any event, the significant questions I am left with are:
Was Greenberg someone Gaetz actually hung around with much, and if yes, why the hell would Gaetz have a “friend” like Greenberg? If yes”, talk about poor judgment...

The FBI dropped the investigation. If there was anything there, they would have went after him.

I will read any investigative report backing this up, when and if it is leaked out, with an open mind. If the relationship is substantiated, then bad judgement on Gaetz's part for sure. But darn, 17 years old? I had aunts who were MARRIED at 17 years old. Let's not equate this, if true, to the horrible crime of pedophilia. I know state laws vary on age of consent but any randy high school boy can find plenty of girls in his school able and willing.
Looks like if this works a whole list of Hookers will materialize to tar the reputation of any and all people Trump supports. Trump will be stuck—unable to function—like his last term. This is so predictable.
