"Local cops arrested an armed man outside a Donald Trump rally in California Saturday, and the local sheriff has doubled down on claims that a third assassination attempt was prevented – even though he let the suspect walk after posting a meager bail for gun charges.
“I truly do believe we prevented another assassination attempt,” Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco told reporters Sunday, a day after suspect Vem Miller was arrested at a checkpoint outside Trump’s rally in Coachella Valley.
Miller, 49, was caught at a police checkpoint allegedly trying to enter the rally with a phony press pass – but when cops noticed his car was unregistered, they searched the vehicle and discovered a cache of fake passports and driver’s licenses, along with a shotgun, a loaded handgun and a high-capacity magazine, officials said.
He was soon booked on weapons charges, and then sprung after posting $5,000 bail, but the sheriff turned around and told the Riverside Press-Enterprise that his department had all but saved Trump’s life.

Federal agencies, however, appear to disagree. The Secret Service believes it unlikely Miller was attempting to assassinate the president, and the FBI is not investigating it as such, sources told The Post, who noted Miller is a member of an anti-government far-right group and probably had the weapons for personal defense alone.
The Secret Service later said Trump wasn’t at risk during the rally.
“The US Secret Service assesses that the incident did not impact protective operations and former President Trump was not in any danger,” the agency and the FBI said in a joint statement. “While no federal arrest has been made at this time, the investigation is ongoing.”

Can’t believe he’s out on bail. Something very wrong with our Justice system...but you already know that.
The sheriff is thinking of running for governor. Did he make a mountain out of a molehill to boost his reputation?
Read this guy’s interview on Fox News - he’s a certifiable nut job.
Which one is the nut job? The sheriff or Vem Miller?
Vem Miller, armed man arrested near Trump Coachella rally, denies wanting to hurt ex-prez: ‘Complete bulls–t’
You add it up with the weapon charges. Then there’s various fake passports on him. Fake driver’s licenses? Yep....same story.
Then the car has a fake tag on it....never been tagged under his name (car insurance wasn’t mentioned but I’d assume there’s none).
Guy has money but it’s exactly clear how he makes it other than reality-social network.
I don’t think you can readily say this is his actual ID name/address. Either a con-artist, or a nut-job...take your pick.
The guy claims he was invited to the rally by the county GOP chairman and that he presented a “special entrance pass” not a fake press pass. He sounds nutty but it would be interesting to know if these parts of his story are true.
I’m really getting some weird vibes from everything I’m reading on X from Charlie Kirk and Andy Ngo. It starting to seem like this is a case of a right-leaning Sovereign Citizen guy and a left-leaning anti-gun sheriff. All he got was a couple of misdemeanors and $5000 bail. No federal charges were pending last I saw. I having seen anything from the Secret Service or FBI.
People who claim to have interviewed the guy say he’s calling the whole idea that he was a possible assassin “complete bull___.” Did he have fake paperwork? If he’s a Sovereign Citizen I can totally see that happening. But he claims he told the cops he had firearms in his trunk as a courtesy. If true I wouldn’t think that was particularly smart, especially to have anything in your vehicle while trying to sneak into a Trump rally.
It’s feeling like this is a confluence of jackasses.
“Something very wrong with our Justice system...but you already know that.”
TRUTH!
“The US Secret Service assesses that the incident did not impact protective operations and former President Trump was not in any danger,” the agency and the FBI said in a joint statement. “While no federal arrest has been made at this time, the investigation is ongoing.” Hmmmm?
Of course, the impact for US Secret Service and the FBI reputations if this had been an outcome in which a more narrowly bad result had been averted?
However, the sheriff department’s for Butler County, PA & now Coachella Valley, CA apparently are functioning well.
***NOTE: Sheriff Bianco stated that “any charges having to do with an assassination attempt would be handled by federal authorities and not his office, and that he was working with both the Secret Service and the FBI.”
THE NEW YORK POST article states: “Vern Miller, 49, was caught at a police checkpoint allegedly trying to enter the rally with a phony press pass – but when cops noticed his car was unregistered, they searched the vehicle and discovered a cache of fake passports and driver’s licenses, along with a shotgun, a loaded handgun and a high-capacity magazine, officials said.”
Vern Miller ran for Nevada State Assembly in 2022 and is said to be a registered Republican. He has a UCLA master degree. Also, he appears to own a California-based CBD company.
Vern Miller has an extensive history of petty run-ins with the law appearing to be a member of the sovereign citizens movement (a far-right movement trying to flout taxes, the court system, built on conspiracy theories and believe governments have no authority over them.) The FBI calls the group “anti-government extremists,” maintaining that while they “physically reside in this country,” they remain “separate or ‘sovereign’ from the United States.”

The Trump campaign thanked local authorities for their work securing his Vegas rally on Saturday.
“We thank law enforcement for securing the rally site and helping ensure the safety of President Trump. We are aware of news reports about the arrest and are currently monitoring the situation and gathering more information,” Trump communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement to The Post.
Hooboy. Forehead slap. Sigh of exasperation.
Either he’s a drama queen sheriff, exaggerating the threat, or a moron who lets a would-be assassin go with a slap on the wrist.
sounds like the news folks made a lot of stuff up.
But I'll still take a wait and see.
“But he claims he told the cops he had firearms in his trunk as a courtesy.”
According to the article:
Vern Miller was caught at a police checkpoint “allegedly” trying to enter the rally with a phony press pass
**** cops noticed his car was unregistered, they searched the vehicle and discovered a cache of fake passports and driver’s licenses, along with a shotgun, a loaded handgun and a high-capacity magazine, officials said.****
Kinda hard to assassinate someone when your weapons are in the trunk.
He sounds more like a nut job than a threat. The article says he might own a CBD company. That might explain some of it right there.
So what we know so far:
- He used a fake ID
- had an official invitation to the event
- He did not carry any firearm to the venue
- The firearms and other fake documents were found in his car
He might be a bit peculiar, but how do we know that he planned to kill Trump?
As I see it, two bodies of law enforcement are grossly incompetent. The secret service saying Trump was never in danger when a lunatic with a loaded gun is nearby, and the local idiot sheriff who let the lunatic go. Phony passports, no valid car reg., more guns in the car. 5k bail and the lunatic skips. The lunatic is probably long gone, and the ass wipe sheriff claims he’s a hero for preventing another attempt at Trump’s life.
We do *not* know he used a fake ID. Unless we take for granted everything we read in the news. I do not. Ever.
He could have been casing the rally without a firearm, expecting to return to his car for guns if and when he saw a break in security.
Ooops! Apparently he did not have a gun on him when trying to enter the rally. My mistake, but he’s still a loony.
