A decade after the first state moved to legalize recreational marijuana, the dangerous effects of the drug are coming to light.
Across the country, physicians are seeing more people with marijuana addiction, psychosis including delusions or paranoia, schizophrenia, and a serious syndrome involving severe vomiting as more people use the drug, The New York Times found. The outlet examined medical records, insurance data, and spoke to hundreds of doctors and marijuana users.
Emergency rooms are seeing more people present with cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, a condition involving “severe vomiting,” nausea, and pain caused by heavy marijuana consumption. The condition can cause extreme dehydration, seizures, kidney failure, cardiac arrest, and even death. At least eight people have died in the U.S. from the condition, the Times reported.
One Maine pediatrician said she sees teenagers who use marijuana almost all day, every day, “a remarkably scary amount,” and are dependent on it. A Massachusetts psychiatrist said she is seeing more cases of schizophrenia related to cannabis use. Even temporary psychosis from marijuana use can last months in some cases.
Some research suggests that about six million people who use the drug almost daily could have symptoms of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

Stoners are screwed up in the head? Nah. Who’d-a thunk it?
Hey, if pot is such a miracle drug for all kind of illnesses and pains, it can only be good for a baby in the womb. /s
Most Marijuana today has been genetically modified to have 3 to 4 times the amount of THC(chemical that makes a person high) then it was in the 1960’s. You smoke a MJ joint to get high and you have a beer to relax.
Jews could never handle their booze.
The New Testament has some pretty spiffy things happening with ETOH
So people were being thrown in jail when the weed was weak in the 1960’s & 1970’s, but now it’s so much stronger and legal.
In retrospect it makes the reactionary laws against pot use in the 1960’s & 1970’s look extremely stupid.
People in favor of prohibition will come up with any excuse to use government force against the targeted heretics.
As a former pothead, I hate marijuana.
PS I rarely drink alcohol, now, either.
I never knew anyone that was thrown in jail for smoking a joint back in the 70’s and 80’s If you had over a certain amount then you were considered a dealer. In fact in Ann Arbor, MI (UofMi) the fine was $5 if you had less then an once.
Sounds about right.
I was a teenager in 1980’s Oregon and never touched MJ, but the cops sure liked handing out MIP’s to us beer drinkers.
“It’s a false analogy you’re making because Rx drugs are prescribed at a given dose and the most serious side effects are very rare, otherwise they would not have been approved.”

Like the covid-19 vax?
Alcohol is definitely abused. However, the culture behind it is different than that of marijuana.
People can drink socially (i.e. nurse 1 drink throughout the evening), but not to get drunk. The goal of marijuana, however, is to get stoned.
You clearly are not understanding the conversation or the history, it is like trying to talk to a pot smoker.
This is not that new and has been out of control for years. Not that uncommon. However these people just keep coming back and back and being admitted, often to ICUs. There are some who run up bills of well over $1 million a year. While doing this they continually take resources (ER rooms, nurses, doctors, more), emergencies are not supposed to occur once a week year round.
Just sayin’
(I will not be around to reply after this tonight.)

You really believe that? I don’t. “Fauci types” can sell the average American on just about anything, as long as it’s reliable scientific study.
Oh, absolutely pot these days is leaps and bounds stronger than it was in the 1970's. It's not even close. Pot in the 1970's averaged a 1.5% to 2% THC concentration. We used to roll up and smoke non-stop between classes and after school, and had no problem functioning. These days your average marijuana THC concentration is 20% to 30% THC or higher. Not only that, they often contain other cannabinoids and terpenes as well. A few years ago, I was experiencing some serious after-surgery pain, and a friend suggested I smoke a joint of his "stash" and see if it helped. OMG, I couldn't even finish the joint. I told him there had to be more in this joint than just marijuana, to which he swore it was nothing but pot. I was more in touch with reality just taking opioids.
Do you have a theory for why so many animals are designed for and capable of alcohol consumption?
Are their stills scaled to size of the species or do they pay larger animals to run them? How do they light them in the first place? Where does the tree shrew carry their money to buy all those little bottles? When they put the tiny label on the bottle so it can be sold in California, is the label in English?
“Like the covid-19 vax?”
It didn’t complete proper testing (Phase 1 through 3 including representative subject selection and adequate amount of time to monitor adverse effects), so was unfortunately an exception.
I can’t tell the difference between 20% or 30% MJ the few times I’ve used it.
It doesn’t seem do much of anything to me, compared to hard alcohol it isn’t strong at all.
But do you hate it?
