Marijuana Use Causing Psychosis, Addiction, Rare Syndrome Especially Among Young Adults: Report
The Daily wire ^ | October 9. 2024 | Mairead Elordi

Posted on 10/09/2024 12:33:05 PM PDT by chickenlips

A decade after the first state moved to legalize recreational marijuana, the dangerous effects of the drug are coming to light.

Across the country, physicians are seeing more people with marijuana addiction, psychosis including delusions or paranoia, schizophrenia, and a serious syndrome involving severe vomiting as more people use the drug, The New York Times found. The outlet examined medical records, insurance data, and spoke to hundreds of doctors and marijuana users.

Emergency rooms are seeing more people present with cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, a condition involving “severe vomiting,” nausea, and pain caused by heavy marijuana consumption. The condition can cause extreme dehydration, seizures, kidney failure, cardiac arrest, and even death. At least eight people have died in the U.S. from the condition, the Times reported.

One Maine pediatrician said she sees teenagers who use marijuana almost all day, every day, “a remarkably scary amount,” and are dependent on it. A Massachusetts psychiatrist said she is seeing more cases of schizophrenia related to cannabis use. Even temporary psychosis from marijuana use can last months in some cases.

Some research suggests that about six million people who use the drug almost daily could have symptoms of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

Why did Western civilization reject Cannabis as an intoxicant until the international left gained so much power in the 1960s...versus the more out-looking go getter and less introspective and navel gazing [alcohol using] Western world.

"Western civilization" as a whole didn't reject cannabis. Mostly, they just didn't know about it since its origins are non-European.

If you look at Soviet era Russia as an example of a culture that embraced alcohol but not cannabis, you would get a horrific picture of the damage that alcohol can do to a society. I don't have the stats on hand and I'm not going to look them up, but the rate of alcoholism in Soviet Russia was insane, and the life expectancy was ridiculously short because of it.

The Irish also claim that whiskey was invented to keep the Irish from taking over the world, and to some extent they are right, because its intake among the Irish was encouraged by the English specifically to placate them, so the story goes.

The idea that the embrace of alcohol made society more "go-getter" is wishful thinking at best. Drunks don't accomplish anything any more than potheads do. What probably matters much more is how socially acceptable it is to be intoxicated, whether by smoke or drink, as a regular routine. In the West, being a public drunk or being drunk on duty was considered extremely bad form to the point of illegality, whereas in some of the cultures that embraced marijuana, hashish etc, it was, perhaps, more okay to be high while walking around.

We knew about Cannabis we knew all about it and Hashish, and we used the hemp, we just rejected it going back at least as far as ancient Greece.

The Soviets and the worst mass murderer of the white race, and soul crushing Communism and just Russians and their history period account for their empty souls, replacing vodka with cannabis would have only made it worse.

As far as the Irish, surely you jest by using that joke, you think that little country’s people are unaccomplished and have little impact?

i prefer a daily smoke over popping pills everyday... no telling what’s in those prescription meds... doctors and lawyers are the only professionals that legally get away with calling what they do “practice”...

I guess that’s why they called it dope ..heh,heh ..

Maybe the movie”Reefer Madness” actually had more truth in it than the dope heads(excluding those who use it for therapeutic stimulation of appetite or anti-emetic effects) want to believe...
Idiocracy....not too far fetched....

If marijuana is illegal, alcohol and tobacco should also be illegal - for exactly the same reasons.

Me too. Unfortunately, I do know what’s happened to him.

He’s in the same dead-end job he’s had for 20 years, working at/managing an apple orchard. No benefits, no retirement, etc. Just a job eight months per year, March thru October.

He lives in an old, broken-down RV that’s parked in a tin shed. He pays the guy who owns the shed, an old friend, $50 per month to live there. In the winter he has only enough heat to keep his water jugs from freezing and about ten blankets on his bed. His bathroom is the woods behind the shed. It’s only a couple steps above living in a tent.

Twenty-five years ago he was married with three kids and was making on-time payments on their house. Smoking too much weed messed him up. Some people handle it better than others.

I concur. [from a pot smoker of over FIVE DECADES]

I have one Indica (the pot store people call it "into bed") gummy an hour before bed. I sleep great, I had sleep apnea before and often could not get to sleep for hours that is totally gone.

The only psychologic effect I've notice is a desire to make coffee in the morning and read FR. Everything in moderation.

I would be 25 pounds lighter if I wasn't under control of the evil wine demon.

As a former pot smoker from an early age I tried for years to warn people against legalization. I was shot down for it many times on this forum too. I knew personally how addictive and destructive chronic usage can be. Now the paste can’t be shoved back in the tube and we’re stuck with the consequences here in Calif.

Who's "we" kemosabe? The average European peasant in the 5th century probably knew how to brew beer or wine, but didn't have the foggiest idea of what marijuana was, even if the traders and elites did. Cultures are built over long periods of time.

Originally, beer and wine gave the Europeans an advantage because the alcohol killed a lot of the pathogens found in untreated water. THAT was the advantage - not because alcohol is a superior intoxicant.

We, Western people and anyone and everyone who was associated with sea trade, sailors and hemp, even doctoring and everything else that people everywhere know about.

I used to own and run a paint contracting business. When I had to retire, my number one guy went to work for another company, that I had worked for before I split off.

One day he calls me and says he needs a place to stay. He comes in, starts showing me videos of the wind blowing branches around his RV home. He put quarters on door knobs so he could hear them if they turned in the night. I went to bed, locking the door and placing my pistol under my pillow. The next day I kicked him down the road. That night, he called me from the street in front of the local PD. He says “the cops are watching me”!!! I hurt his feelings when I gut laughed at him.

He ended up in the hospital, after nearly dying from some heart attack that is related to Meth use. He now paints pictures from photos, and lives in a nursing home situation...he is 53. METH/Speedballs

I smoked it for far too long... lol, started almost 40 years ago now. I was a drunk by the time I was 21 because I moved to Arizona at 18 right out of high school on my own and alcohol was legal here. I used the weed to quit drinking a case of beer almost every night at the time. I just wont advocate for smoking it any more... I doubt any smoke is good for the lungs, but I don't see anything harmful with eating it.
At 59, I don't go to the doctor for anything, not on any prescriptions, blood pressure is in the optimal range every time I check it. I feel better now than I did 10 years ago. I can have an edible in the evening and then I don't notice the back and neck pain that I live with and I can get a good nights sleep every night to wake up feeling fresh. They work good recreationally too, if I am going to be around a bunch of obnoxious drunks, it makes the night more bearable.
I quit smoking for periods of time in the past and after a month or so, got to the point where I could not even bend over to tie my shoes because of back problems from high school football, wrestling and then a car accident. I could feel the tightening up after a couple weeks on vacation, because we never travelled with it. At one point after I quit, I started using CBD oil and it took care of the problem, Somehow it works like a lubricant for the joints, but CBD is very hit or miss and VERY expensive.
As soon as we could grow it here in Arizona legally I got my card and grew it myself. Yes you have to do more to it to smoke it than you do it eat it, but all that really entails is trimming it and drying it, but you could eat it fresh from the plant... or make canna butter or whatever kinds of oil you want to infuse, although I usually dry/cure it before doing that too.
I have talked to quite a few people who say they cured their late stage cancers eating Rick Simpson oil. I always reasoned there had to be a logical reason for our bodies to have cannabinoid receptors...

We’ve known all these negative effects of cannabis for decades.

The problem is today's pot is MUCH more powerful than the stuff we experienced in high school.

Right now, I expect alcohol to be banned in some areas and MJ to be required.

1 of my kids was in the same boat. He didn’t get his life together UNTIL he stopped with the weed too. He said the same thing, it’s just weed, I have the need to do it yet...
Now, he’s kicking butt and taking names like I always knew he could. Drug free.

You really believe that?

I don’t.

“Fauci types” can sell the average American on just about anything, as long as it’s reliable scientific study.
