Traffic Jam via Aspendos on X
Highways leading out of Florida are jammed for miles as residents evacuate the Sunshine State before Hurricane Milton lands this week.
Since Hurricane Milton was upgraded to a Category 5 storm, millions of residents have packed up their things to exit the state, only to be met with gridlock traffic.
Hillsborough County in the Tampa Bay Area has ordered evacuations among its residents.
Hillsborough County Fire Chief Jason Dougherty, while ordering residents to evacuate, gave an eerie warning, “If you remain there, you could die. My men and women could die trying to rescue you. They are heroes, but please do not put them in that situation. Help them by leaving zones A and B today.”

Per The New York Post:
Highways out of Florida are backed up for miles as panicked residents attempt to flee the state before Hurricane Milton’s landfall later this week.
Hurricane Milton stands at Category 5, the highest rating on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. It is expected to have winds stronger than 157 miles per hour.
In Hillsborough County, home to nearly 1.5 million people in the Tampa Bay area, residents are scrambling as local leadership orders the evacuation of zones A and B — essentially anyone living immediately on the coast or just outside.
“We’ve ordered evacuations for zones A and B for a very good reason,” Hillsborough County Fire Chief Jason Dougherty said during a press briefing in Tampa, as reported by the Florida Phoenix.
As residents evacuated from the state, many stores in the Tampa area were left barren.

Fuel shortages have also been reported as residents are fleeing the Sunshine State.
CNN reported that over 1,000 fuel stations have run out of fuel.
But EV charging stations are available...
Can you imagine all these vehicles being EVs?...............
Jeez…. There was absolutely no reason to wait until the last minute to FILL YOUR FAS TANKS!
Between the last hurricane and this one, I am waiting for the reports of resulting EV fires/explosions from salt water contact...
Hoping dead EVs don’t block the roads.
But, it's only about 15% that have run out and they are getting refueled in the next 24 hours.
Just a few minutes ago I watched video of the Florida State Patrol escorting fuel trucks down the emergency lane of a major highway. DeSantis is a doer and he hires/appoints competent people who think ahead and take action.
There’s a law in Florida that if a vehicle is disabled and blocking an emergency evacuation road, bridge or whatever, over the side it goes................
Florida Officials: Contraflow Is A No Go For Hurricane Evacuations
Note to state government: So's your traffic.
Things are smoothing out...drive time from Spring Hill to GA is now cut in half from what it was last night.
As long as people get away from the flood zone they will live. Going just 10 miles inland makes all the difference.
“DeSantis is a doer and he hires/appoints competent people who think ahead and take action.”
He’s definitely not a Kathleen Blanco.
Rita, 2005. 100 degree heat and 20.5 hours to get to what normally took 3 hours to get to. Police blocked back roads, narrowing choices south of Houston to 3 or 4 main roads. All because Bill White, mayor of Houston 60 miles inland, urged Houston citizens to evacuate long before the mayors of coastal towns much more vulnerable did. Over 200 dead from the evacuation, less than 20 from the storm itself. The pictures from Florida are strangely similar and my heart goes out to all those on the road.
just imagine if these had all been EVs! ... evacuation routes would soon be parking lots filled with dead EVs ... parking lots that basically could never be cleared again unless bulldozers simply shoved all of the dead EVs to the side of the highways ...
A coworker tried to leave. Nope. They have to ride it out
Aquafence is about to get tested. It helped with this last hurricane but Milton may causes surges that defeat the fence at the Tampa hospital.
After a few of these hurricanes, I switched to diesel truck for alternative fuel in these types of cases. Wife can follow and if all gas gone, much higher chance to have diesel.
Waffle house index. ...CLOSED...largest in waffle house index history.
is it that hard for them to stage fuel delivery semi’s with capability to deliver fuel at the vehicle level?
When the power goes out service stations may have thousands of gallons in underground tanks but no power for the pumps to deliver the fuel.
The semi’s fuel delivery vehicles don’t even need pumps, just gravity feed hoses with delivery nozzles.
