More than 1,000 active-duty soldiers deployed to the southeast to help thousands of National Guard troops as the death toll from the storm rises.

More than 1,000 active-duty soldiers with the 101st and 82nd airborne divisions are on the ground and in the skies above North Carolina, working to help local National Guard units and emergency responders aid communities impacted by Hurricane Helene.

As of the weekend, more than 7,000 service members from the United States Army and the National Guard are active across the southeast. The National Guard units from 16 states were joined by active-duty soldiers mobilized by the XVIII Airborne Corps, with the express mission of “reaching the hardest hit areas as quickly as possible,” the Department of Defense said.

Roughly 500 soldiers with the 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division left Fort Liberty on Oct. 3 for Asheville, the largest city in western North Carolina and part of Buncombe County, one of the most damaged parts of the country by Helene. They are conducting inspections of the roads in the region, as well as clearing debris and transporting supplies. Several aircraft were deployed with them for the mission.

Seems like it is taking awhile. These units are supposed to be able to “fight tonight.”

Well, maybe they can help provide relief to the Florida Guard and citizen volunteers who have been on the ground for some time and must be tired by now.

<>Roughly 500 soldiers with the 20th Engineer Brigade . . . left Fort Liberty on Oct. 3 for Asheville.<>

Almost a week after the catastrophic flooding.

NC needs a governor and the US needs a President.

1,000? That’s not very many.

Need many more, especially helicopter and engineer assets.

Aye, better late than never...but highest levels of command MUST answer for and be held accountable for this delay.

Kopy, Kamala?

Interesting to note no mention of who and/or how they got their orders. No mention of Joey or commieLa.

That was Jimi Henrix’s old outfit.
He enlisted on May 31, 1961, and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, where he was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. One of the complaints against his behavior:

True to his calling, he often played his guitar while off duty, which didn’t endear him with the other men in the barracks, who just wanted a good night’s sleep. His constant guitar noodling led one of his commanding officers to comment, “This is one of his faults, because his mind apparently cannot function while performing duties and thinking about his guitar.”

Hendrix departed from the military in July 1962, completing just over a year of his initial three-year commitment. His discharge, ostensibly attributed to a fractured ankle sustained during his 26th parachute jump, was a point of speculation for decades.

YES!!!

These fools (Gov and GOK at WH) had to be shamed into doing something.

As another poster asked ... curious as to who, exactly, issued the order. No telling. Maybe 0bama.

Well, I guess Obama finally decided to do something now that most of the injured are dead. Gotta get rid of all those Trump voters.
As for the empty-headed Kamala, she’s probably 3 sheets to the wind by now cuz it’s 9:15 in DC.

Another good article, however, the implication of my reply's question I don't see answered.

Given the original post says: "The National Guard units from 16 states were..."

My understanding is multi-state NG deployments require CIC-level orders, which I see no references to. I mean, who is the CIC that ordered this?
