Top political anchors at liberal news outlets panned Democratic vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz’s debate performance Tuesday, with one journalist likening it to President Biden’s disastrous June showdown with former President Donald Trump.
“It kind of reminded me of the June 27 debate, when Kamala Harris that night said of Joe Biden, ‘It was a slow start, but a strong finish,’” ABC News anchor Linsey Davis said of the Minnesota governor’s matchup against Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio).
“And that’s how I felt Tim Walz kind of did tonight,” she added. *** Davis, who alongside David Muir moderated the Sept. 10 presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump, suggested that Vance was more “effective” at hitting Harris on Tuesday than Trump was last month. *** I feel like that was really effective,” Davis said of Vance repeatedly noting that the vice president has not pursued several of her stated policy goals during the last three and a half years she’s been in the White House.
“You know, to use Tim Walz, his own words, I mean, a lot about this debate tonight was, was weird,” she added. “There were comfortable, cringey moments, but overall, my take on this was that JD Vance needed to come away as that humble, likable guy from ‘Hillbilly Elegy.’ It seemed like he did perhaps get some points in that.” *** “I think there was a clear lack of preparation and execution here,” anchor Abby Phillip said *** Jake Tapper acknowledged that “JD Vance is much more experienced with this, at public speaking and defending himself and pivoting,” while Anderson Cooper concluded that Walz seemed nervous on stage.
The New York Times described Walz’s performance as “occasionally halting,” noting that the governor “struggled early but found his footing.” ***

He is just plain weird. His physical movements along with his eyes are quite strange. He waves his arms in a uncomfortable way as well. He appears like there is something mentally wrong with him.
I think you may be overanalyzing. Perhaps he’s just a goofball knucklehead who’s gotten by all these years with his “aw shucks” yokel routine, and now he’s in over his head
there has to be something wrong with any white man that would be a Democrat.
Walz looks like a guy who just found out that he is expected to play the role of puppet for a bunch of deep state thugs and is not entirely comfortable doing so. That certainly would explain why he and Harris are so nervous all the time.
This really should be the LAST Prez / VP debate. for a long while.
R’s need to wise up. Just stop feeding into this rigged system of 3 on one. Dem strength questions. Fact checking ONLY them etc.
it is Candy Crowley, EVERY TIME.
Just stop.
And Stop talking to dem media. Shut them off, Starve them. Don’t go on their “Meet the Liberals” shows.
Until it is a scenario where they pick one moderator, the “we” pick one moderator.
Just stop.
This is Lucy with the Football.
EVERY TIME.
It’s a party of cucks except for some of the top guys. Someone has to be a man and lead those defectives.
He is a Democrat after all!
He looks like a large mouth bass to me.
Imagine the fights that occur among DemocRTATs, each trying to steal an IQ point or two from their compatriots. Remember, a single IQ point represents a considerable percentage of a Democrat’s supply. Think I exaggerate? Consider the intelligence of anyone who thinks a completely open border is a good idea. How about ID checks for liquor, guns, cigaretts, but not for voting? Lowered standards for college if you’re of a certain group?
When one thinks like that, one gets dunces like Kamala and Tim for their prime candidates.
And Hillary calls us “deplorables”? The woman who’s never been a success at any job she’s held?
Polls also show that Jan 6 is way down on the list of issues important to Americans, below the economy, immigration and crime. So probably doesn’t matter that much.
JD Vance’s target audience were white suburban women and he nailed it with this subgroup, 100% success.
He looks like Gorbachev without the splotch.
Obama chooses Biden as his running mate as the vaccine against impeachment. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any sillier, Biden chooses Harris as his vaccine. Now Harris chooses Waltz. See the trend?
Imagine the fear when the deep state doesn’t fear you?
Yes.
Vance super surpassed Walz for at least the first 45 minutes.
After that, they partially rope a doped each other, being friendly and dimension agreeing on things.
They tried to reserve their attacks for the tops of the tickets.
That was an interesting turn. They say Vance was trying to soften the ticket’s image with women.
In a way, all that friendliness undercut each side’s claim that the opposition is evil.
At the very least, Vance erased the fable that he is weird or uncaring.
You also can’t dismiss the fact that JD is much younger than Trump, and gave the debate performance most of us wished Trump had given.
Vance did continue to attack on substance late in the debate. And he reassured people that he could step in as president.
Of course, leftists will always suffer when the debate is on substance.
So I give strong overall advantage to JD Vance, Walz came away looking not ready for a national stage.
And probably Ari Fleischman is right that the VP’s can’t really move the needle for the presidential vote.
If I were Trump, I’d grab JD to my side and announce proudly that they have brought us the future of the republican party and America.
Maybe a blend of Howard Dean and James Stockdale.
I cannot agree more. The questions were ALL skewed to the Dems, climate change, abortion, guns in schools, free stuff, etc. Should have spent most of the time on the economy/inflation, immigration and crime, world chaos, these are the top items but the Dems are weak so they skate over them. No more debates like this with moderators - only need "timekeepers" and all questions are from the top ten list starting with the top polling issue and cascading down the list. Each get 2 minutes and a 1 minute response.
