Republicans now account for the majority of voters registered in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, according to Department of State data released Monday.
Luzerne County Republicans have not held the lead in registration since 1970, according to WFMZ-TV 69 News. The flip reflects the Pennsylvania Chase’s grassroots initiative and the ongoing political realignment under former President Donald Trump.
Luzerne County, known for being a major exporter of anthracite coal, is located in the northeast part of the state, just a few miles from Scranton, the birthplace of President Joe Biden.
Biden lost the county to Trump by about eight percentage points.
Before Trump, Luzerne County was a stronghold for Democrats for decades, but new data shows that Democrats finally lost their slim lead of 233 voter registrations on September 16, WFMZ-TV 69 News reported: Republicans account for 87,415 of the county’s 203,321 registered voters. Democrats account for 87,332 registered voters, which means the Republicans lead by 83 voter registrations in the county.
There are 22,414 unaffiliated voters and 6,160 voters registered with third parties, according to the latest totals.

Democrats held the advantage in county voter registration for decades. However, that advantage has been on the decline since 2014 when it reached 47,322, with 111,233 Democrats and 63,911 Republicans registered to vote in that year’s primary election.

Luzerne County has been heavily democrat since my childhood days.
It is made up of real people, hard working, struggling since the death of anthracite mining, mostly ethnic. If your name didn’t end in a vowel, you were suspect.
Even with a majority of democrats, it went overwhelmingly for Trump in 2016 and more so in 2020.
If you want to know the outcome in Pennsylvania this year, look at Luzerne County in the northeast and Erie County in the northwest.
It’s a landslide for Trump unless the democrats are able to generate enough fake ballots in Philadelphia.

This may be “near” Scranton but its’s sure as hell not Scranton. It’s Wilkes-Barre (and suburbs).
Scranton (Lacakwanna County) is a hard-core Democrat shithole and nothing significant has changed about that though its registrations are heading the right direction as is true of about 90% of PA’s counties these days. Joe Biden’s “home town” (in his imagination) and its surrounding area is still way over there on the left. The (D) registration edge in Lackawanna is 20,000, or about 19%.
Lackawanna hasn’t voted (R) for President since Reagan; Luzerne has already voted twice for Trump — by 19% and then by 14% — so this belated registration flip isn’t as monumental as the hype suggests; Luzerne has already “flipped” as of several years ago where it counts the most: at the ballot box.
Lackawanna enthusiastically voted for Fetterman and Joshie Shapiwo two years ago. Luzerne went for Oz and only narrowly (1%) rejected Doug Mastriano for Governor.

If you are referring to Luzerne County, you couldn’t be any further from the truth. Look at the election results in Luzerne County from 2016 and 2020 and get ready to put on your shocked face.

Dem registration advantage is down to 338K from 675k in Nov ‘20....a 337k registration swing in less than 4 years. Biden won by 81k.....all things hold even with expected votes by party and Indies and Trump wins PA by at least 150k votes (and that’s if Harris holds most of the Biden coalition (which won’t happen)
