Tuesday night’s high-stakes debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will be one of the defining events of this year — maybe this decade.
Two months before Election Day, the race is about as close as can be, and the candidates will have no greater opportunity to make their contrasts stark than after they shake hands in Philadelphia.
Longtime Republican strategist Karl Rove says Trump has the more difficult task because he’s the one running on substantive issues — as opposed to Harris’ vacuous “joy”-filled campaign.
Trump can win the debate, before Harris makes her opening argument.
That’s why it’s particularly important the former president stays on message.
What he says and how he says it will matter throughout the evening. But his two-minute closing statement, which will follow Harris’ and put a period on the event, is especially important: It’s his best chance to clearly articulate a vision for the country and prosecute the case against Harris’.
If he wants to win the night and the election, he’ll have to do just that and avoid the rambling rants and personal attacks that have held back his campaign.
Here’s what that might look like:
Do you remember when going to the grocery store and stopping at the gas station didn’t fill you with dread?
Do you remember when the news out of the Middle East was about our enemies being brought to heel and peace deals being forged?
Do you remember when our southern border wasn’t an international embarrassment?
It’s no coincidence the last time you remember any of this, I was your president.

He can mostly ignore Kamala and debate the motives and the insinuations of the questions and win in that way.
He can pose his own questions to Kamala in doing this also.
For example, he can ask about food price controls and how that would work without destroying the industry by seizing it and starving people…how it has been used to control people by evil regimes before.
He can also ask why we would need a prosecutor for President unless it is to persecute and prosecute the American people or…is it just certain people?
And so on…
“THIS ONE WEIRD TRICK CAN WIN HIM THE ELECTION”
Just tell the truth! Her record is miserable- His record is stellar
Hillary Clinton was smarter than Harris. She could speak in intelligible sentences and has forgotten far more than Kammie will ever know.
If Trump could handle an old pro like Clinton, imagine how easy it will be to put Willie’s Ho in her place.
However..... Trump must resist the easy opportunities to ridicule her in the ways you mentioned.
According to the polls, most of whom are Democrat-biased. You should consider how, after the 2020 heartbreak, most conservatives distrust polls and surveys so don't participate in them. When I see reported poll data I automatically add 15% to the non-Democrat side for a more realistic picture.
So never let these "reports" discourage or depress you when, taking that imbalance into account, they're saying the Democrats are nearly 20% or more behind.
Winning.
. . . with this one weird trick.
Exactly why the advice in the article is well worth following!
LOL- No skill required for that one simple trick
That’s brilliant!
He should bring a breathalyzer to the stage do himself then hand it to her
Moderator - “You have two minutes Mr. FORMER President.”
Trump - “Are you better off now after a biden/harris administration than you were before they took over?”
[mic drop]
Charm wit and levity will win you in the start, but in the end it’s brevity that keeps the public’s heart. ~ Bennett Cerf
Open with this: I’m Donald Trump and I have been called loud, abrasive, arrogant and pushy but hey, being born and raised in New York City leaves a mark on most people. If you can look beyond those characteristics, you will find national policies that killed inflation, lowered gas prices, sealed our border, lowered crime, stopped wars, made us energy independent and restored our self respect. I don’t have to make you promises tonight, all I have to do is ask to to examine my record in the White House. It seems like light years but actually only 4 years ago. Once again, Let’s make America great again. Thank you.
“The Biden-Harris economy has everybody driving a luxury vehicle - it’s called a grocery cart.”
Right up there with:
“Yes, Biden has created many new jobs. Currently, I have 3 of them.”
I agree. I’m afraid he can’t help himself - NY swagger.
Idiot. “Held back his campaign?” You mean the one that is now ahead in EVERY metric except a handful of spoogified polls?
Stopped reading right there.
I’m quite sure Trump’s closing remarks will be an epic mic-drop summation, similar to what the author proposes.
That was one of the highlights of the movie, “Reagan”, that we saw last night. Everyone was thinking, “Trump!”.
