Donald Trump Faces Backlash Over Rally Locations: 'Sundown Towns' (Barf alert!)
Newsweak ^ | 9/3/24 | Khaleda Rahman

Former President Donald Trump is facing backlash for holding rallies in places described as "sundown towns." A TikTok user pointed out a "troubling pattern" in the locations of Trump's recent rallies in a video that has gone viral on social media. It was also shared on X, formerly Twitter, where it amassed millions of views. "Howell, Michigan; La Crosse, Wisconsin; Johnstown, Pennsylvania," the man said in the video. "What do these places have in common? They're all sundown towns." He added: "This is where Donald Trump is choosing to hold his rallies... You got a presidential candidate for the GOP doing a sundown town tour around the country, not looking for political gain. He's f****** rallying the troops." The term "sundown towns" dates back to the segregation era, referring to communities with a wholly white population where Black people were considered unsafe after nightfall. Black people were prevented from living in those communities through discriminatory policies or intimidation and violence. Today, many of these communities with racist histories remain predominantly white. he Trump campaign has been contacted for comment via email. On social media, many shared their belief that the locations of Trump's recent rallies could not be a coincidence. Trump's campaign "is intentionally visiting 'sundown towns' which violated federal law to be 'whites only,'" journalist Jim Stewartson wrote on X. "This isn't a dogwhistle, it's a KKK hood over every single person who supports Donald Trump or the GOP. ENOUGH." "Interesting notice recently that Trump is holding his rallies in sundown towns. This caught my interest when he chose Cullman, Alabama, my Mother in Law's hometown, as one of his 2021 stops for this campaign," Vance wrote. "A sundown town is one that forbade Blacks, by ordinance or otherwise, to live in it.

I had to read the link to find out what a Sundown Town is.

I know a lot about American English and American political history.

Never heard of Sundown Towns before.

What do they call rural Black towns and Black neighborhoods that are too dangerous to enter after dark?

Donald Trump Faces Backlash.

Define "backlash." Perhaps Newsweek is trying to instigate a "blacklash."

“What do they call rural Black towns and Black neighborhoods that are too dangerous to enter after dark?”

Then there are cities like Chicago where you’d be a fool to show your white ass affer sun down,

There may have been towns where blacks were not allowed to live, but only come to work in the day. There also were quotas against Jews and East Asians in the Ivy League colleges, East Coast law firms, banks, and investment firms that hired only white Protestants for management positions, country clubs exclusively for people from old stock families, etc. All these practices were largely gone by 1970 if not sooner. Now we have discrimination against conservative whites and vaccine resisters of any race in the Fortune 500 and the Federal agencies, heterosexuals in the culture, East Asians in the universities, evangelical Christians and traditional Catholics in the culture. 70 years ago, the FBI harassed Communists and leftists; today, the agency harrasses conservatives, traditional Christians, and patriots. Really nothing has changed, just the targets.

Do these people also believe those towns don't deserve representation in Congress?

Why haven't I heard any protests over anyone who runs for Congress from these towns? Aren't they supposedly guilty of the same things they're alleging about President Trump?

"What do these places have in common?

They are all places where people work at useful occupations and so need to get up in the morning.

(Similar to the distribution of people who do not watch late-night TV.)

ROFL!

Every large city in these United States has a “sundown area” where White people aren’t safe after sundown ... or any other time of day.

“The libelous remarks which come for the Deep State agents boggle the mind. “
The Newsweak article strongly implies that in these towns the citizens are all racist KKK members because they live in a white community. Essentialy they are saying “All white people are racist”. They are overlooking a period known as the Civil War and Sundown towns like Gettysburg PA where 20,000 white Union soldiers died to free blacks. But whatever.

“I am old and have never heard of “sundown towns.” I recall sayings like they roll up the sidewalks at 6 o’clock. It wasn’t racist,”

Same here. These people are pathetic.

“On social media, many shared their belief that the locations of Trump’s recent rallies could not be a coincidence.”

They choose worst case scenarios to run with and are disappointed when it doesn’t pan out, and it only goes to show that they didn’t mean well to begin with. Right off the bat, they’re looking for trouble. They derive a poor enough quality of meaning to be offended at almost every turn. They see it as being an unwarranted personal affront to their dignity when they could choose to give somebody the benefit of the doubt. They conjure up these ‘cruelties’ and make assumptions that certain derogatory terms were exclusively meant for them. It’s like some kind of ‘psycho-masochism’ is driving them. They can’t see how their minds are in the gutter because they’re too close to it, and the deeper they go the further from reality they get. It must be a living hell for them half of the time, yet they seem to enjoy it. After awhile, you might even be tempted to just give them what they want...Add group-think to that and it could lead to mob violence over “hate speech”, etc. and our First Amendment rights. The expectation that people should always be walking on proverbial eggshells around them is patently unrealistic if not ridiculous. Sooner or later, they’ll suffer a major break and you might not want to be around when that happens.

“they have a whole history conjured up”

They do have active (evil) imaginations to trump up positive narratives for their side. I’m a quilter, and several years ago a new fairy tale was launched about the Underground Railroad. The story is that quilts hanging on clotheslines or porches were codes for runaways. Different quilt patterns were different signals.

Turns out, this never happened; it’s a bunch of BS per historians who have researched it.

Especially, since the KKK was the Thug Arm of the Democrat party. This TikToc-er needs to study history before pulling stories out of his ass.
