Can they plead ignorance? Timing is good but a bigger win in a deep red state doesn't count in the purple ones.

*Governor Abbott signed House Bill 1243 into law last year, increasing the penalty for illegal voting, including voting by noncitizens, to a second-degree felony.”*

No way punishment will be a felony in other states, even those with GOP legislatures.

The Secretary of State’s office is in the process of sending all 1,930 records to the Attorney General’s Office for investigation and potential legal action,”

Can they plead ignorance?

They can plead false identity. After all, how many "Jose Garcia's" are there in the state?

Prosecute every last one of them to the fullest extent of the law.

No mercy, no deals.

Track down the election officials who allow these non-citizens to vote.

The republicans must put the fear of God in the illegal throngs. If they don’t it’s fair to say that they will lose power in more States than Texas.

Giving them immediate citizenship would be "legal action". Wouldn't put it past them.

What’s the chance that any of them gave their real name or address?

I have a green card employee who discovered (by getting a jury summons) that he was not only registered to vote, but voted, in New Mexico. (He has not voted.)

He promptly informed Sante Fe, said he did not vote, and they pretty much threatened him with prosecution if he continued to make a stink.

He then wrote the local county voter registrar, who apparently just ignored him.

He kept all the records in case it ever becomes an issue.

He keeps getting jury summons.

Arrest the five that voted the most times.
Charge them.
Prosecute them.
MAKE AN EXAMPLE.

Then DEPORT them. Put them on the watch list.

Word ought to get out on the street that any non citizen who votes gets a deportation priority.

So, almost 1/3 of the illegals on the voting rolls in Texas actually voted.

Wonder if that percentage holds up in Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee and Atlanta…

Except for the sheer numbers, this is actually not new news. The Texas AG has been going after voter fraud for many years now. A big bust in the DFW area over 10 years ago comes to mind.

With 15m+ flooding in over the last 3 1/2 yrs, Texas is probably the closest it’s been to full purple

Can they plead ignorance?

It is possible if they registered via "Motor Voter," especially if the form was not in their language and or filled out by the DMV clerk. At which point they can state they received a voter card and assumed they were permitted to vote.

Motor Voter has many flaws, primarily that any prior registrations are only cancelled if the states properly exchange data. Proof of citizenship should be required before the Motor Vehicles department accepts any application requesting registration as a voter.
