US officials believe that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar wants to strike a deal with Israel since he is "trapped" underground and running out of ammunition and supplies, Washington Post journalist David Ignatius wrote in an opinion column on Wednesday.

With their desire for a deal to end their misery, Ignatius notes that Hamas is "playing a waiting game," hoping that Iran or Hezbollah will attack Israel, a move that would transform the battlefield.

However, he writes that Iran will likely disappoint Hamas. He reports that US officials estimate that Iranian leaders have decided to delay their strike on Israel, deterred by strong threats by the US.

According to Ignatius, Tehran is urging Hezbollah to strike Israel in its place. On Hezbollah's part, US officials believe that its leader Hassan Nasrallah has backed down from his initial plan to launch a missile barrage on Tel Aviv and will instead choose to hit other targets.

This is from WaPo, and it quotes "US Officials". In other words, BS. Rats are not "trapped underground". That's their element. "Supplies" is what they shout at a Japanese birthday party. So long as there's "humanitarian aid" to steal and sell, and the rank and file Hamas are at liberty underground in their element, Sinwar, et al., are not "trapped" at all.

I believe that the article is correct and was leaked as a way for US intelligence officials to warn Hamas and its supporters that they cannot count on US pressure to rescue them because the weakness of Hamas is known to Israel. The IDF is now like a terrier ripping into a rat's nest. They will not be stopped by anything Hamas can do in the field or by outside intervention.

In military terms, the IDF has command of the battle space in Gaza and is engaged in an operation of defeat in detail against Hamas. Pinned down, with lines of communication impaired and supplies running out, Hamas's military power is much diminished and its defeat as an organized force is well underway.

As US and Israeli negotiators are no doubt warning, unless there is a hostage deal, Sinwar and the other Hamas leaders in Gaza will be killed or captured.
