There is a song, not well known in the US, called ‘Living Next Door to Alice”, about a guy who was in love with the girl next door for 24 years, but never let her know, and now she’s moving away. Originally an Australian song, then covered by the British band “Smokie”. About 30 years ago a Dutch band called “Gompie” recorded it, but at the end of every verse, added “Alice! Who the F is Alice?”
It seems likely the guy was referring to this.
