Brittney Griner, who once boycotted national anthem, emotional as 'Star-Spangled Banner' plays after gold win
Fox news ^ | 11th August 2024 | Ryan Gaydos

Posted on 08/12/2024 2:05:54 AM PDT by Cronos

Brittney Griner was among the WNBA players who spoke out about the national anthem in 2020 amid a summer of racial unrest following the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

Griner said in 2020 that the WNBA shouldn't play the national anthem, adding the league should "take that much of stand." She also walked off the court before the anthem was played before a game that season.

But since then, Griner has gone through tumult. She was imprisoned for nearly 10 months in Russia after she was arrested on drug charges in February 2022. The U.S. and Russia would agree to a prisoner swap and the ordeal seemed to change Griner’s stance about what "The Star-Spangled Banner" means to the country.

Griner was seen with the gold medal around her neck after the U.S. women’s basketball team defeated France at the Paris Olympics and in tears as the anthem blared.

"I didn't think I would be here," she said of the 2024 Paris Olympics, via Reuters. "And then to be here and winning gold for my country, representing when my country fought for me so hard to even be standing here. This gold medal is going to hold a special place among the other two I was fortunate to win."

If Trump or some other America First Republican was president, doubt many of these American athletes would behave as if they’re proud of our country. In their mind, they think Harris is going to win, so therefore it’s okay to drape themselves in the American flag.

I think the French wbbk team pregame display of patriotism embarrassed them. What’s with Sabrina and others (3) bowing their head? (Going to Indy on the 26th to see Fever play.)

We’ll see what happens when this freak is back in the States and plays the next game, let’s see if this new found patriotism still holds or if it’s short lived.

Or we’ll see what happens when Trump is back in the White House.

Libs are being on their best behavior right now to get Commie-La across the finish line.

Leviticus says nothing about drug dealers. Heck, the Holy Bible teaches “moderation” specifically. So we waste tax dollars and tear families apart. Meanwhile, the violent offenders get 3 hots and a cot for the rest of their lives at taxpayer expense.

Obviously a real nice retirement program for so many who did not plan for it.

I was so fortunate to travel outside the U.S. when I was in my 20s. Just not being here taught me so very much appreciation for my country. The trip was many months long. I remember tears falling when, several months in, we inadvertantly passed a U.S. Embassy on a road in France and I saw Old Glory on its flagpole.

It’s wonderful that Griner ditched her former arrogance and let her humble gratitude show for the nation and world.

Look at that! Not only standing for the anthem but holding a hand over the heart!

I go to a lot of college basketball games, and it’s rare, very rare to see a black player hold their hand over their heart during the anthem. Hell, most of the white players don’t do it either to be “in solidarity” with their teammates.

Most blacks look like they don’t want to be there during the anthem. Once I saw a player playing with his balls during the anthem and I sent the coach an email. I didn’t know if the coach said anything to him or not, but I didn’t see him do it anymore.

I watched the Men’s championship game.

When the Anthem was played-—Curry was the ONLY player I saw whose lips were moving.

JAMES had his lips GLUED TOGETHER in his usual scowl.

I CANNOT STAND THAT MAN.

Well actually that’s a man Baby but at least he’s learned his lesson. Nothing like 10 months in a gulag to smarten you right up.

Leviticus says nothing about casinos, LSD, AR-15’s, atom bombs, transgenders, television sets, computers, cocaine, electric guitars, radios, ecstasy, purple drank, etc...

But God’s word does say to love God with all ones heart, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as you love yourself. That law should inform us as to how to handle the things not specifically mentioned in God’s word, including drug dealers.
Freegards.

I would think the whole event was staged to “rehabilitate” Griner in the public perception. Toss out that bit of media info. Stop believing that what is presented to you by journalists is an actual truthful reflection of reality.

Can he lecture, ok? I worked in media for 40+ years and had a close-up view of the spin.

Even if she was faking, she is a good actress and hope she grows into it.

the thing is that they have been misled by the media like the “river to the sea” useful idiots.

The USA before 1850 was bad to African Americans in many parts, but since then it has tried to make amends. Not completely successfully, but it has tried. Looking at the alternatives should broaden the mind.

Like after the Rumble in the Jungle, boxer Muhammed Ali was asked by a reporter, “Champ, what did you think of Africa?” Ali replied, “Thank God my granddaddy got on that boat!”

The USA ain’t perfect for “African american” people, but it’s the best available. Note that I said “African American” - many people who self-label (or are labelled by others) as such are American. They don’t fit in with current African society (see the failure of Liberia).

I do believe God gave us plants and seeds to nourish our body. It is too bad Randolph Hearst was so scared of what hemp would do to his timber interests years ago.
