SELLOFF: Dow drops 1,000 points, Nasdaq craters 6% in global market rout: Live updates
CNBC Live ^ | 05 AUG 2024 | Hakyung Kim John Melloy Sarah Min

U.S. stocks fell sharply on Monday as part of a global market sell-off centered around U.S. recession fears. Japan’s Nikkei 225 plunged 12% in its worst day since the 1987 Black Monday crash for Wall Street.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1,068 points, or 2.7%. The Nasdaq Composite lost 6%, and the S&P 500 slid 4.2%.

Fears of a U.S. recession were the main culprit for the global market meltdown after Friday’s disappointing July jobs report. Investors are also concerned that the Federal Reserve is behind in cutting interest rates to bolster an economic slowdown, with the central bank choosing instead to keep rates at the highest in two decades last week.

unless Ford has resumed dividends, I’d pass on it even at 9.

It’s going to get way worse for ford before it gets better.

Qualcomm, Nvida, Verizon, Toyota are all good bets imo.
AMC and Probably Intel too.

This isn’t over by any means.

Nope, the world is afire and Kamala wants four more years of this. I have yet to see a Trump TV ad on the economy, inflation, border, global strife.

There goes Joe’s argument that he boosted the stock market. It’s too bad we don’t have a President at a critical time. Of course, Harris would be no help, unless she helped Iran. Obama, Rice, Harris are all crazy optimistic about the Iran regime.

This is a perfect example of them “ managing your account.”
Isn’t technology wonderful? You can’t buy or SELL, what they won’t let you see?

In 2008 the market fell over a period of 6-7 months. The Fed will be trying to prop things up until the election so that could set up a really big crash.

Bitcoin....given the massive drop.

At this point, it has more credibility than most other currencies, besides gold and silver of course.

Schwab website appears to be overloaded by traffic. Took a couple of tries before getting in. No problem putting in a buy order.
