Fresno restaurant owner hit with $21,000 PG&E bill for one month, nearly double his rent

A Fresno small restaurant owner says he has had enough after his PG&E bill was nearly double his rent.

Manuel Perales, the owner of Yosemite Falls Cafe says his June utility bill was nearly $21,000. His rent? $10,000.

“How do you pay that bill?" he said.

He says it doesn't make sense to receive that astronomical bill even during the hottest months of the year.

He's not the only one outraged with the increase of PG&E bills.

He shares that one of his servers told him her monthly bill was $1,000.

"This is a young lady with two kids. She goes, you know, we can't afford that," he said.

Daisy Saldana, a server at Yosemite Falls Cafe says, her bill last month was around $700.

"It has been hot but that is a little too extreme, $700," she said.

For May, her bill was at $400.

Luckily, she says she splits it with three roommates, or else it would be her whole paycheck going towards the electricity bill.

For Yosemite Falls Customers, it's the same story.

Dale Manasco said, "It's ridiculously high and especially when you're on a set income. I don't have the best-paying job and what I make, seems like it's going to the PG&E bill."

Other customers who overheard a FOX26 News crew speaking to Perales say, they couldn't believe his utility bill was double his rent to keep his business running.

That, on top of inflation and minimum wage recently going up.

Living in Paradise is becoming unaffordable.

It's getting that way everywhere. My electric bill in SW PA has tripled in the last 10 years and I can guarantee that my power usage hasn't.

Hmmm. I have “uninsured motorist” coverage in my auto insurance, so it's not like my insurance company is losing money to the deadbeats.

Running your air conditioner in hot weather causes climate change. Of course you should pay outrageous sums of money. Just switch it off, die and we can sequester your carbon.

In Alabama, a huge part of the power rate increase comes from the fuel costs the utility pays to fuel their power plants.

For example, in the June power bill the per kWh rate was 12.6207¢/kWh (for the first 1,000 kWh). However, the fuel surcharge was 03.6212¢/kWh. Between that and the 4% state tax, we paid 16.89¢/kWh (on top of the flat monthly fees, which total $15.60/month).

So it hurts power customers even in Alabama when Obama's EPA forced us to close some coal plants and replace them with "clean burning" natural gas fueled power, then Biden issued EO's making it harder to drill for natural gas (making the price of natural gas go up, which made power rates go up too). Basically, the Dims under Biden are punishing us for using the natural gas that Obama forced us to switch to. Bull crap like that is why I have a bunch of solar.

Do you shop for your electric supplier via the PA Power Switch program? I save hundreds of dollars by doing so. If you're unfamiliar with PA Power Switch, reply or mail me and I'll share the PA Power Switch the filters/options I use for best price.

The Louiswu ~ "Paying for folks that don’t carry insurance"

Don't have insurance, don't or barely speak English, can't read road signs, unfamiliar with the traffic laws and customs, from cultures that do every thing they can to avoid interacting with police, lest they be beaten or shaken down (i.e. hit and split)...need I go on?

This is all pretty stupid because they don’t tell you the kWh used. Then the rest of us can relate it to something like our home usage.
I use about 500 kWh per month.
My power comes from a Democrat run Hawaii company that is nearly the most expensive per kWh in the entire world.
(55 to 85 cents per kWh).
Don’t cry me a river without more facts and data!

Sorry Manuel. It’s a Cauliphonya thing. Send the bill to Gruesome Newsom. Or better yet, send it to the new president Chiquita Harris the Banana Lady.

Hey Californians because you live in California and vote for democrats soon you will be paying even more ( not less) and you’ll be tolerating brownouts on top of it. These are the benefits of being good and woke and democrat.

I find this difficult to believe, but then again we quite gratefully do not live in communist paradise.

This is either a billing error or PG&E is trying to compensate for losses elsewhere. If they are stuck with unproductive windmill and solar panel adventures, then that’s the likely cause. Also they have a ton of freeloaders out there not paying their bills.

Regardless of actual cause, Kalifornia’s loony left is the root cause. And they are exporting this to the rest of the nation and have been since the 60’s.

This all can not be due to incompetence in our elected leaders, it has to be by design.

It is not going to get better until Democrats (and environmentalist) are no longer in charge.

Yeah, I did all that. It's the best price, and lower than the power company. We're an all-electric home. Wifey refuses to let gas on the property. We can afford it, but just because we CAN afford something doesn't mean we enjoy it. In another episode, wife and her mom both signed up for some shyster supplier about 10 years ago. Rates were awesome until January, when we literally got a 1K bill (and this was 10 years ago). Cancelled the contract immediately and contacted the AG. I think they got shut down.
