You also have to remember that the resolution that formed the J6 Committee had the rules for the minority to pick members as a part of the bill.

Any Trump assassination attempt committee would either be formed as any other committee or by resolution like the J6 committee with special rules for membership.

The real problem was when McCarthy pulled the other Republicans in protest. If he had kept them in place, then seniority would have put Rodney Davis as the ranking member. By pulling them all, Pelosi was able to pick her own Republican and make that person the ranking member. She picked Liz Cheney. McCarthy got played.
