Vice President Kamala Harris, who was tapped to lead the administration’s rural broadband expansion, failed to connect one person with high-speed internet despite having $42.5 billion from the so-called infrastructure bill.
During his 2021 State of the Union address, President Joe Biden tapped Vice President Harris to lead the effort “because I know it will get done.”
Now, in 2024, it appears that the Biden-Harris admin has made little progress getting Americans connected to high-speed internet.
...
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commission Brendan Carr noted in June that Biden and Harris did not connect one American despite having access to $42.5 billion in funding from the so-called infrastructure bill, or the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Carr noted on Wednesday, “President Biden put VP Harris in charge of this effort back in 2021 and days later not 1 person has been connected.”
Hundreds of broadband infrastructure builders are now sounding the alarm, writing that the $42 billion plan to expand Internet has been wired to fail.”
...
Carr in June contended that much of the Biden administration’s failure to expand broadband is to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals.
...
All of this threatens to leave rural communities behind.

How do you know that the work in your area was done using the $42B “infrastructure bill” program being discussed?
(It must be nice to have fiber in the middle of nowhere, I am in an urban area and Spectrum is cable-based here. Spectrum does build some systems without the government funding it.)
Folks have been waiting to see results from that dem program the entire time.
Unless you know something else to add, I am going to think that those funds were actually not used as intended, as I think if that was significantly “BS” that it would have been noted by those watching.

….. unburdened by the past, now it all makes sense
That is her campaign slogan
Alternatively “it wasn’t me”
Same here with Cherokee County Electrical Cooperative. High speed internet for all!
“writing that the $42 billion plan to expand Internet has been wired to fail”
The author makes the mistake assuming ANYTHING the democrats throw money at is suppose to accomplish anything.
Billions for EV chargers and few built.
Where is the money?!
For any who are unaware Kamala is in the running for the Nobel Prize for her brilliant analysis of artificial intelligence:

Remember—it is two letters.

I thought AL Gore fixed this in 1997.
She did manage to let the low income subsidy for internet expire. So she did better than not getting anyone connected. She got people disconnected. I wonder where all that taxpayer money that the republicans gave the deep state ended up.
The money was allotted but was it spent?
The money was allotted but was it spent?
IF she could finger paint, sales would soar!
My ISP just ran fiber over a quarter mile to my house on their dime. I asked if they were getting federal money to do it and they said no.
We conservatives just don’t understand. There are important qualifications for the rural internet installers. Firstly they must belong to a union. Secondly, the company they work for has to adhere to DEI standards including employment of all of the alphabet (LGBTQIATS) people who apply for such employment. There are many more standards - too many to list here as you can imagine. Or if you get tired of waiting for the transsexual government union thug to get the assignment you could contact Starlink like I did and spend $500 of your own money, do the easy installation yourself, and have immediate high speed Internet. I’m not kidding about the Biden required installer qualifications either. Same requirements for charging station installation as well. Those mf’ers are CRAZY!
I asked my wireless provider and he was trying to get in on that funding but he was a small business. Spectrum literally ran miles down sparsely populated county roads so I doubt that did this out of the goodness of their heart.
Less than 6 months before they started the project, they made a local dairy supply business pay to extend the fiber less than 200 feet away from their current end point at that time. My house is a quarter mile down the road from that business and I have lived in my house for 17 years waiting for the fiber extension.
When I would call them they would just say there were no current plans to extend the fiber.
Face it. She sucks.
They could’ve hooked 70 million homes to Starlink for 42 billion.
Beginning in 2001, HT began to aggressively deploy fiber optic networks both inside and outside its incumbent territory.
