Biden’s decision to drop out ‘has nothing to do with his health,’ White House says

President Biden’s decision to step aside as the expected Democratic nominee in November has “nothing to do with his health,” his top spokesperson said Wednesday ahead of his prime-time address to the nation.

“It has nothing to do with his health. The president is going to speak to this directly to the American people in prime time,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters during a briefing.

“In his letter he talked about the country, he talked about the party, he talked about the moment we’re in right now,” she continued. “It is not about his health. I can say no, that’s not the reason. But hear him out tonight.”

Jean-Pierre also rejected the idea that she and White House aides were engaged in a “cover up” to mask Biden’s decline from the public.

“There’s been no cover up, want to be very clear about that,” she said.

They didn’t let the voters decide. Just seems like there should be lawsuits flying.

It’s because he sucks and his party detests him.

LBJ chose not to run before the primaries.
LBJ chose not to run after the New Hampshire primary where Eugene McCarthy got 42% of the vote.

Many thanks for the info; there at least there was a candidate besides LBJ.

Were there more; what percentage did the others get?

How many other primaries had been held, besides New Hampshire?

After LBJ dropped out, Bobby Kennedy entered the race along with Hubert Humphrey. Run a search on the 1968 campaign, and you'll see who won what. When RFK won the California primary, that very night he was assassinated at his victory party at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

Organized Labor still ran the party, and Labor was still pro-war, so they had no use for McCarthy, who was anti-war. Humphrey got the nod at a convention marred by violence on the convention floor, which was mirrored by violence on the streets of Chicago.

A few years ago, it was revealed that at the height of the conflict on the convention floor, LBJ called Mayor Daley, the Convention Chair, and asked that the nominations be reopened. LBJ told Daley that he, LBJ, was the only candidate who could unite the party in its present state of conflict.

Daley was so shocked that he violated protocol for speaking to the President. Daley said, "Lyndon, are you out of your f***ing mind?!" Daley talked Johnson down, and Humphrey got the nod, choosing Edmund Muskie of Maine for his VP choice.

“On Sunday morning,” the official told me, with the approval of Pelosi and Schumer, “Obama called Biden after breakfast and said, ‘Here’s the deal. We have Kamala’s approval to invoke the 25th Amendment.”
