The father of would-be Donald Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks has revealed the family is just trying to “take care of ourselves” — as he stepped out in public for the first time since the shooting.
Matthew Brian Crooks, 53, made the remarks as he was spotted leaving a grocery store on Monday, Fox News reported.
“We just want to try to take care of ourselves right now. Please, just give us our space,” Crooks said as he loaded bag-loads of items into his car.
“We’re going to release a statement when our legal counsel advises us to do so – until then, we have no comment.”
It marks the first time the dad has spoken out since his 20-year-old son opened fire with an AR-15 rifle during Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pa. on July 13.
The would-be assassin was shot dead by a Secret Service counter sniper just moments after he managed to clip the former president in the ear with one of his bullets.
Crooks’ father, a registered Libertarian, had legally purchased the rifle used in his son’s attack.

His kid should have given the shooting victims some space. This dad is worried about liability.
I understand the Dad wanting to consult police, then make a formal statement for the family, but how much ‘consultation’ is needed just to express sympathy for Donald Trump and the other people who were shot by his son? No need to worry about defining a motive at this point, but say something, at least, so that the public knows this family get’s why the country was/is shaken up.
Has it been reported what the shooter’s parents do for a living?

You cannot blame the family for being cautious now that the families of assassins are all being charged with crimes.
Both Matthew and Mary Crooks are licensed as professional counselors, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State Licensing System Verification Service.
How statist of you. Next you will be calling for gun control where parents lose their 2nd Amendment rights when they have children. Shame on you.

They *have* to keep their mouths shut for now. The FBI, their lawyer, etc., have all told them they must.
I am not going to judge these people in this moment. We curiously know nothing about what happened with their son leading up to his crimes. We don’t know when or how he took his father’s gun, with or without permission, and so on and so on.
All we know is their son is dead, and he died in the process of committing heinous crimes (attempted assassination, murder, etc.).
What if it was taken without his knowledge? What if he said he was going to the range?
Someone’s an ahole, that’s for sure.
I think the parents need to be given room. It’s already been reported that they called the police prior to the assassination attempt. Everything I have read says they are cooperating.

If it was his rifle and he didn’t lock it up, yes charge him. This has happened before and people were charged. I bet parents knew a lot more prior to his son trying to kill Trump.
Aren’t firearms supposed to be locked and secure? If that rifle was so easy for the traitor to just take then he is culpable.
Do you think his parents didn’t know something was off about him now that we know he had encrypted overseas accounts, apparent access to weapons, even a drone. IF they were thay oblivious to him then he should not have access to firearms.
