Aren’t firearms supposed to be locked and secure? If that rifle was so easy for the traitor to just take then he is culpable.
Do you think his parents didn’t know something was off about him now that we know he had encrypted overseas accounts, apparent access to weapons, even a drone. IF they were thay oblivious to him then he should not have access to firearms.

No, Karen, firearms are supposed to “locked and loaded” and kept close by in case they’re needed.

Exceptions might be made if there are children around who are untrained in firearm handling.
