A week after surviving an assassination attempt, US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday said he spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by telephone, and pledged to end Ukraine's war with Russia. Trump has repeatedly claimed he would end the war quickly if elected but his frequent praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin, reluctance to directly criticise the Russian invasion and suggestions to back away from NATO deeply concern Ukraine's allies.

The world is recognizing that there is once again an adult in America to deal with. I fully expect Trump to broker a peace in Ukraine by Election Fortnight. Is Bibi still coming to DC? If so, Trump needs to sit him down and explain what he needs to do differently. When Trump speaks to Putin while making peace, which federal law will Garland charge him with violating?

There is no peace to be brokered with Russia. Instead, Trump will politely, respectfully, and privately threaten Putin into a cease fire or even peace on terms that preserve Ukraine and protect its sovereignty but leave Putin and Russia with their sense of dignity intact. In spite of the Biden administration’s bellicose policies, they have not fully and properly put the screws to Russia. Trump will if he needs to.

his frequent praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin

Huh?

I don't recall ever hearing Trump talk about Putin at all--certainly not favorably.

Hilary, on the other hand, seemed to mention Putin a lot 8 years ago--back when she was busy losing the election of 2016. But that's not surprising. He's a Communist, and so is she.

Did DJT cross some line here? Isn't it illegal for a private citizen to hold "negotiations" or make deals with foreign leaders without being registered as an agent of the government or some such?

Forgive me but I am super paranoid that the left will pounce on any argument not matter how specious the argument to get Trump.

There is no peace to be brokered with Russia.

Eisenhower was committed to ending the Korean War, or "Truman's War" in the first year of his office. Trump will do the same when he is re-elected. Sorry, Euroscum. The war is coming to a close.

And Ukraine and Russia will draw a line just like they did in Korea. That war is under a cease fire and it’s lasted 75 years. What’s wrong with that.

What did they crucify Mike Flynn on? I’m pretty sure Trump was charged on some variation of this already. You need a program to keep up with the kangaroo courts and committees.

There is no peace treaty with North Korea, only a cease fire. Eisenhower obtained that by threatening and preparing to use nuclear weapons on North Korea. We need not and ought not to use such a threat on Russia, but we have other leverage that Trump could use to wreck the Russian economy and war effort.

Trump will use the power and influence of the US to force both Ukraine and Russia to the peace table. This “endless” war will come to an end soon after Trump takes office.

We won’t have to broker a damn thing.

When US taxpayers are not longer forced to pay for this cluster foxtrot, it will end.

Cut off the funding if you want to bring Ukraine to the peace table. I think Donald knows that.

No peace deal?! Are you blind? What do you call this?

“Instead, Trump will politely, respectfully, and privately threaten Putin into a cease fire or even peace on terms that preserve Ukraine and protect its sovereignty but leave Putin and Russia with their sense of dignity intact. In spite of the Biden administration’s bellicose policies, they have not fully and properly put the screws to Russia. Trump will if he needs to.”

The beauty of it is Trump can do it on reputation. All he has to do with Putin is call him up and say Drill Baby, Drill. Every foreign leader knows exactly what they have with Trump and thank God he is back, EVEN Z! Every one one them knows he’s back in five months and they will act accordingly. It will be easy. BOTH Russia and Ukraine want peace. They made peace as soon this started. The corrupt DC warmongers who prevented peace will be gone.

Both sides are better off with a deal like that and neither side is worse off. It’s time to approach this rationally. If we really think that Russia is an “existential threat,” we should be bombing Moscow. But we are not.

Trump knows that by the end of January, Russia will have withered into nothingness

You see it right here. Z knows the gravy train is derailing. What Trump has told us for a year, he told Z yesterday. Z is pledging to go along. He’s got no choice. Trump and Orban very well could pull it off.

I love the zeitgeist where Trump is starting to conduct foreign policy as if he were already in the Oval Office.

Logan Act (January 30, 1799!) Yeah Rats go ahead and bring it up!

Glad to see his second term beginning now. None too soon.

Trump's bigger fight will be against his own RINOs in Congress who will want perpetual reconstruction funding for Ukraine.
