MILWAUKEE - For four nights at Donald Trump's nominating convention in Milwaukee, a roster of speakers attempted to give one of the most divisive politicians in recent U.S. history a makeover, describing him as a loving and caring family man whose near-assassination at a rally on Saturday had changed him.
That new version of Trump lasted barely half an hour.
Then the Trump more familiar to Americans - the bombastic thrower of insults who revels in demonizing his opponents - re-emerged, trampling over the message of unity so painstakingly choreographed by the Republican National Committee this week.
In a rambling 92-minute address that broke the record for the longest convention speech in history, Trump called Democratic President Joe Biden the worst president in U.S. history and the former Democratic House Speaker "crazy Nancy Pelosi," and accused Democrats of launching judicial witch hunts against him and creating a "planet of war."
Using familiar hyperbolic and divisive language, he said illegal immigration to the United States was "the greatest invasion in history" and was leading to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans every year, though neither claim is supported by any data.
He painted a dark picture of a crumbling America, a nation in decline, its cities crime-ridden and economically depressed, a staple image of his stump speech in which he presents himself as the country's savior.
To be sure, Trump avoided some of the harshest language often deployed at his rallies. He usually relishes mocking Biden as an enfeebled president, but only mentioned him by name twice.
Trump returns to the campaign trail on Saturday.
Diehard supporters typically flock to his rallies to see Trump 1.0 - the man who mixes conspiracy theories with inflammatory rhetoric and threats of retribution against those he perceives to have wronged him.

They protest too much.
But who would expect anything else from Al Rooters.
Love that by line.
Perhaps the author should look outside his window.
Another AI article.
It’s all they know.

“He painted a dark picture of a crumbling America, a nation in decline, its cities crime-ridden and economically depressed, a staple image of his stump speech in which he presents himself as the country’s savior.”
Dark? Yes. Realistic? Also, yes. Are they saying that cities are somehow not crime-ridden and economically depressed? Could those two conditions be related in some way?
Truth is often divisive.
Royturds?
Notice how they play fast and loose with the facts.
Trimp is perhps far to complex for then to truly understand him.
Plus the left now lives in fear that Trump is going to win in a labd slide, so they continue their propaganda against President Trump and his entore family.
My favorite speech of the whole convention was Peter Navarro’s. Eric Trump’s came in at a close second.
The only criticism I have of Trump’s speech is that it was too long, but a man just having a brush with death can be forgiven for such a minor “faux pas.”
I thought it was a great convention. I enjoyed it.
I see the MSM is back to gaslighting. I went to sleep since I have a job but it was hardly the old demolition derby Trump. It was downright Presidential.
Also, the DNC talking points are in full display - the Secret Word for Trump’s speech is “rambling”. I entered “trump rambling” into my search engine, and I got EIGHT hits.
Take note of how many media outlets use that Secret Word during the day.
Media would rain on God’s parade.
This is all Reuters has for a spin angle?
I didn’t click, so I’m curious to ask anyone who did, did the article ever go back and refute Trumps claim that it is the greatest invasion in history or that are cities are crumbling?
Reuters is doing Trump a favor by repeating Trump’s speech, even if they are framing it up as “hyperbole”. Most people agree that we’ve got problems, such as inflation.
Me too. Great gathering of like-minded folks.
I remember when Reuters was a respected news agency.
The author should walk down ghetto streets, but he won’t, b/c if he survives, he will become a Trump supporter.

“He painted a dark picture of a crumbling America, a nation in decline”
The PERFECT description of Rooters as a part of the MSM.
Yeah uh huh. The RNC couldn’t stand having him there “trampling” all over everything they’ve worked so hard to create. -sarc
They never learn a lesson because they are to stupid and evil
These journalists have sick minds.
